The joke is, all states are.
And only parts of Kansas are flat. There are rolling hills and plateaus and other features in parts of the state.

Definitely Oregonoid.
Not to be confused with Zonian
I propose Californians be henceforth referred to as Californicators. I just love that song.
Being from Boston MA that one always slays me. I say “Me too! What part?” and they usually say “Gardner or anywhere but a neighborhood actually in Boston.” Actually I don’t travel that far. Used to hear it on Martha’s Vineyard all the time when I was a kid.
I’ve always been annoyed by the way “Coloradan” sounds and feels to say. But I also can’t think of a better name for us. Ah well.
Someone saying “I’m from Chicago” is likely to follow up – if you ask for details – with the name of a town that is 40-60 miles away. How the heck is that “from” Chicago? Why not say “I’m from X, about 50 miles west of Chicago”?
Or “Chicagoland?” I’m not sure exactly how far out that term covers, but it’s certainly more fun to say than “50 miles west of Chicago”.

Because they’re tired of explaining how big Illinois is and big Chicago is, and how they commute from Lake County into Chicago, and even though they’re from 40 miles away from Chicago they’re not from “southern Illinois”
Anywhere south of I-80 is downstate IL. Anywhere west of I-294 is Iowa.
I live 35 miles or so from Downtown Chicago. There’s no break in the urban sprawl between here and there, so I think its okay to tell outlanders I live in Chicago.
In the Chicago area, sure.
