Agreed; even people who never watched it know how it played out by now. I look forward to someday picking up BCS again, but I’ve only seen the first three seasons. I got to shoot a game of pool with Michael McKean back when I only recognized him as Lenny, so human nature being what it is, I think he’s great in every role I see him play. Man, that whole arc…
Wow, that’s really cool.
To be fair, I feel the same way and I never even met the man; he’s incredibly talented.
Just his courtroom scenes in the episode Chicanery should have won him an award…
I am a bit late for that other thread, but I finally watched Masters of the Universe - Revelation. Honestly I never was especially into that franchise, but as a boy born in the western world in 1980 of course I was familiar with the basics.
I think it is pretty much perfect for what it is. It makes the story a bit more complex and mature but not so much that it loses the connection to the original. It is exactly the right amount of stupid. It is also self-aware when it can be without letting that get in the way of a very loving and sincere treatment of the original.
Even aside from the politics of the controversy, those complaints are spectacularly stupid because it is so clear what Smith is doing. This was the first half-season. It only makes sense to sideline the most dominant characters for a bit to develop the rest of the cast in ways you couldn’t otherwise. And that’s where the show really shines. Even traditional one-note characters get depth and their moment in the spotlight.
Right place, right time. The wrap party for Radioland Murders was at a bar a couple blocks from my house. I think we wandered past just as they started letting the public in, so I got to spend the evening practicing the art of Not Being That Guy with a bunch of comedians. Spent at least an hour standing outside talking to Larry Miller, although I recall absolutely nothing about the conversation.
I took a break from season four of Gomorra to watch
I don’t have anything positive to say about this movie at all. It felt like a low budget vanity movie that Lansky would have had made for himself. Not entertaining enough to be a movie, in no way accurate enough to be a documentary. I dunno what it is.
Your mileage may vary, but for me it was a complete waste of time.
Thanks for the warning!
I recently watched “The Watch”. I was initially reluctant because I’d read that it was only going to be “based on” the Pratchett books.
It is definitely different from the books and to say it is more “inspired by” the books than an adaptation of them is perhaps an understatement but I ended up enjoying the series immensely.
Despite being very different in look and feel and with some characters utterly changed, I thought it captured the feel of Pratchett’s work very well and some of the acting is amazing.
And the whole series aesthetic is just… well out there. They picked a style and went full throttle on it.
TLDR: I liked it.
On iPlayer at the mo for those who can access it.
I’m guessing this is going to end up in development hell, the way things have been doing…
Looks like Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender is not going to be whitewashed like the movie was…
Excellent! A good start!
Good for them; representation matters.
most excellent! I will 100% watch this!
this is actually exciting news.
now… Azula and Toph? my two verymostfavoritist characters (well, apart from Appa) need two very strong Asian women for those roles.
oh! you have made my day with this news! I absolutely adore AtLA!
This is just the preliminary annoucements, so I’m sure other characters will be announced soon. But so far, so good.
No word on who will play Appa!
I thought the first ep of this was a ton of fun, it’s essentially just Captain America: The First Avenger compressed to 30 minutes but it was fun and that’s something which has been missing from a lot of the MCU.
Agreed. I was impressed at how many original cast came back. Stephen Tucci came back for a single line! Ross Marquand has upped his RedSkull game too since Avengers endgame. I was convinced Hugo weaving had come back to the mcu.
I noticed past an initial grunt Peggy didn’t scream at all during the procedure where Steve did so. Mrs Akbar said to me “duh… Us girls can handle so much more pain than you. Super serum? Pshaw…try cramps.”
I was pleasantly surprised at how many original cast were providing voices and the guy playing Steve Rogers doing his own take was spot on. Peggy actually enjoying being Captain Carter was also a nice change and really suited the format - that montage section with the music was so great. Great animation as well and i’m not usually into that style, it usually feels too smooth and sterile but they seemed to put a lot of work into it.
I thought marvel started their own animation studio for What if? (where Sony animation did Spider verse) with the rate animation studios farm out who really knows for sure. The celshading on What If? is spot on for sure. Loving its 2d/3d look.
I was curious if there was a connection to Spider-Verse but i couldn’t find any after a cursory glance but animators work on all manner of projects as pointed out. I love the Spider-Verse animation though, it’s got that subtle rough around the edges style and the attention to detail is extraordinary. The look of this first episode is certainly appealing in its sort of retro aesthetic i suppose.
