Whatcha Watchin' (Season 2)

Been catching up on the fourth season of Better Call Saul… it’s clear that after the Bar committee rejected him that Jimmy just cracked. But the last episode, after he gave that moving speech to the appeal board, and then he and Kim leave the room and are celebrating, and he calls them suckers… the look on her face is just heartbreaking. It’s rare that you get so very clear a “heel turn” in a show like this, and the committee’s rejection was it for Jimmy. What he said to that young woman after the scholarship meeting says it all, I think. Looking forward to season 5 whenever it’s on the Netflix.

Just started watching Katla, which is super-weird. Just a couple of episodes in and would recommend so far. It’s a nice mystery with some possibly supernatural elements, but also lots of volcano science. Also, Icelandic landscapes, FTW!

I still have my fingers crossed that Kim leaves Jimmy, rather getting fridged; we know she’s out of his life completely by the time he starts working for Walt - they never even reference her outside of Saul briefly mentioning a former wife, off-handedly.

Fingers extra crossed for Bob Odinkirk in real life; he had a ‘minor’ heart attack on set…

I agreed. I’m very interested to see how their relationship plays out over the next 2 seasons. It’s clear that she really loves Jimmy, as she was willing to do some questionable things for him. I hope it turns out she just leaves rather than “get fridged” as you say…

Yes! Last I heard he was recovering and it was minor, so…

“Two?”

I’m pretty sure you’re all caught up to current, and that the next season is the last.

ETA:

I was wrong and right - you’re not caught up all the way yet, and the upcoming season (6) is the last one.

If this show were American, I probably wouldn’t even watch it, but I just can’t resist that German charm.

Yes, i was going to say that Mindy still has season 5 to look forward to where stuff happens. Maybe too much stuff that brings it too close to Breaking Bad instead of being its own thing but still, it’s quite a ride.

So much stuff has happened (IRL and on the show) and so much time has passed between airings, that I managed to overlook a whole season… Even though I sat riveted to my damn seat when Gus and Saul were stranded in the dessert, and even more so when Lalo survived the assassination attempt and then went looking for Nacho.

Yikes.

Gonna have re-watch the whole series once the final season has aired.

Might even add it to my BB boxed set collection.

I might have guessed season 5 was shown in 2019 but it was only last year! But it still feels so god damn much longer…

2020 was quite a long decade…

Far better than expected…

Does it stand alone, or is it better to watch the earlier one first?

If you understand the basic premise of why there’s a Suicide Squad, it’s fine by itself.

It’s a stand alone feature, though personally I recommend NOT watching the 2016 film at all… EVER.

It was fucking horrid, even by DC standards.

Thus far, the list of DC films I’ve actually liked is really short:

  • Wonder Woman (the first one, not that ‘1984’ abomination)
  • Birds of Prey
  • The Suicide Squad

Not to say that it was perfect or anything - it had its’ share of flaws, but I still was able to enjoy it thoroughly.

IIRC there was a mention of a previous, presumably very short-lived marriage when Saul and Kim got their marriage license, so it’s possible that Saul wasn’t even talking about Kim.

True; in BrBa, Saul did briefly mention his ex-wives, plural.

Vince Gilligan already mentioned he regrets this line from Breaking Bad because it suggests Kim is destined to do something very out-of-character:

In the third season of Breaking Bad during the episode “Green Light,” Saul says to Walt, “I caught my second wife screwing my stepdad. OK? It’s a cruel world, Walt. Grow up.”

EDIT: actually I had that wrong, it seems that Kim is Jimmy/Saul’s third wife.

I always presumed that Jimmy made up and/or embellished a lot of the seedy-ass stories he told as part of the ‘Saul Goodman, douchebag lawyer’ persona - remember, first and foremost, Jimmy is a consummate conman.

I employ them for talking about BCS, but I’m not using them for random bits of info from Breaking Bad; as it’s been off the air for almost 9 years now.
