Whatcha Watchin' (Season 2)

I believe the core of season 3 is Tofa’s story. And if it isn’t, it probably should be.

I watched the first episode of The Rings of Power last night. I enjoyed it, but need to see more before I can form an opinion on it. The show’s budget certainly shows. The show does seem to be generating backlash from the segment of the fanbase that hates anything with a woman as the lead. I did see a couple nice rebuttals on twitter.

The nazi crybabies are predictably railing against it. So much woke agenda everywhere these days!

Well got your Snyder thing and ruined DC, congratulations but guess what? The studios aren’t going to listen to you anymore. Only nazis like nazi shit.

Elves are badass, regardless of sex. G didn’t dispatch that troll easily, she did it stylishly with extra points for flair!

And we wonder why we can’t have nice things, cause some dickheads got to go and ruin it for the rest of us…

Éowyn should have been played by a man too. And Wonder Woman.

It’s wise to know your Tolkien lore inside and out before making such claims or you’ll get your arse handed to you.
It sure looks expensive, because it is, and obviously owes a huge debt to the films but i read a comment that it often looks like an extended cutscene from a videogame and i can’t shake that thought.

I am less of a computer gamer, and more of a PnP gamer, so may have spent less time with cut scenes, so didn’t feel that. I DID stop watching the Hobbit movies because they seemed too obviously packaged to make into a computer game. The RoP have, to me, a better narrative feel, and I am still optimistic. It’s still in the exposition, so hard to say.

The flip side of your comment is, I got into DnD and such partly because there was no more Tolkien to read. So much of my, and I believe other’s, gaming was to pursue a Tolkien fix. So maybe they look similar because people writing gaming cut scenes wanted more Tolkien too.

There were scenes like Galadriel hanging by her knife on that ice cliff where she just looked like a CG render and once i had that cutscene comment in my head i kept seeing it everywhere but maybe it was confirmation bias! The scene where the elves get their armour removed before returning to Valinor was very beautiful though.

The ice climbing scene reminded me of my brother’s description of ice climbing. He’s done some ice climbing, and a lot of rock climbing and essentially described ice climbing as something to do when rock climbing gets too safe and comfortable.

But a “young Gandalf” (i know, no such thing) or any other male lead handling a sword in their youth would be nbd. Firefly was a nice exception where the male lead had no clue what to do with a sword, and had to take a crash course from Inara . Good man - YouTube

I didn’t think it looked like a cutscene, but now I’m worried I’ll have that in my head when I watch episode two and not unsee it.

It appears some assholes do want the show to look like a video game though.

Such a novelty, having a TV/movie character who’s atypically pretty. Barbie doll movie is coming out, maybe they’d enjoy that. I assume that Galadriel can make herself look like whatever she wants to, from simple “woman” to a dazzling sorceress queen, same way Gandalf can be a feeble geezer leaning on a crutch or a demigod about to release the thunder.

Listening to his Neverwhere, narrated by him. He does a really good job with the characterizations.

I mean, really shouldn’t we go back to the time when men played all roles? /s

Wait, people are complaining that freaking Galadriel of all people can defeat a troll? She is one of the most formidable incarnates of all time. Anyone surprised by that hasn’t been paying attention to who she is or now power in Tolkien’s world works.

I don’t expect much from the show, but I may have to get Prime Video just to celebrate how much it pisses of all the right people.
