Whatcha Watchin' (Season 2)

Yeah. Posh English elves as the aristocratic bosses. And the unevolved hobbit comic relief have Darby O’Gill and the little people Hollywood Oirish accents. It’s the 21st century and it looks like a copy of Punch from the 19th Century brought to life with CGI.

“Woke” my fucking hole!

That was just mildly irritating as it was so ludicrous but I think the reason I turned it off was that I was tired and it made me feel like snoozing.

So, just like it was written then, eh?

TBF LoTR had English peasants as the Hobbits doffing their caps to the lords.

Tolkien was way dodgy. Hardcore conservative catholic Franco supporting type that he was.

The last episode was cool. I like the snark/trendy jokes.

I’m hearing so much about Brendan Fraser’s performance and standing ovation, I thought I’d post this. That “aw shucks” moment really gets me.

I just watched episide 2 and was slightly disappointed to learn that Dwarf women do not, in fact, have beards. I would have liked to see that Aragorn had been telling the truth.

Would have been a bold, progressive move for the showrunners to cast beautiful bearded women in the roles.

Wait, is that not what the hashtag “#BBW” stands for?

Three Thousand Years of Longing was pretty good.

Apparently a bunch of angry nerds are going all-out to review bomb both She-Hulk and Rings of Power this week because those shows symbolically castrated their private fantasy universes or something.

I have to wonder how big an impact user reviews make on those sort of things since all the streaming service cares about is how many people watch, and they have that data readily available. If I ran Rotten Tomatoes I think I’d be seriously considering either revamping how the “audience score” feature works or dropping it entirely.

I would say the same for IMDB’s rating system.

CNN is not helping the situation. WTF has happened to that place? Yes, let’s platform some racists and characterize including some Black actors in a show as “wokeness.”

Well Amazon are. And as linked here the other day Warner Brothers currently rue the day they mistook an astroturf trolley army of fash for their audience. Turns out they were just a loud minority of empty vessels dominating the noise and discourse.

I quite liked Rotten Tomatoes as the disparity between the two can sometimes be interesting. Or could anyway. These days…

“I’m not racist! I just think it’s unrealistic to include brown-skinned people in a fictional fantasy world filled with elves and dwarves and hobbits and orcs and dragons and were-bears and giant eagles and talking trees and…”

Not to mention how Tolkein’s universe always had a European feel about it…history shows that Black folks were much more prevalent in Britain than folks today realize.
Also note the top User Review for the series…smh.

But Tolkien is based on medieval Europe and there were no Black people. Just some elves and hobbits running around with all the white people /ssss

Just for reference, the skull the idiot is referring to is one believed to be one of the first Roman settlers in England…and of African heritage. :man_shrugging:

Yep; apparently acknowledging that people who are not White, male, cis, and straight even exist is somehow “wokeness.”

Somewhere I saw pointed out that the actual out-of-place inhabitants are the potatoes, and yet everyone loves them.
