And that just squashed any interest I had.

Not because of the comparison to Lost (which I’ve never watched) but because I have no interest in watching anything even slightly romantic right now.

For just once, I want some fantasy escapism that doesn’t feel the need to ‘couple up’ the main protagonists.

But I am glad that you enjoyed it, and I will keep it in mind for later…

I don’t want to give any of the plot points away but the romance ( maybe a poor word choice) isn’t the typical pairing up the two attractive leads. Think more in terms of a fairly tale love that spans time and space. The love gives rise the science fiction, and the science fiction leads to the love. It’s not just tacked on, it’s everything.

But with that said I understand not being in the mood for certain topics at times. Have a nice night.

I really, really like Kaya Yanar, as his first national series Was Guckst Du? poked fun at the immigrant life here in Germany. Sure, his attempts at playing other ethnicities was often more miss than hit, but it was an honest attempt to satirise as one of the underdogs, not dehumanising.

I tend to be more into the Kabarett scene, and one of my favourites nowadays is Sebastian Puffpaff. He has a great way of superficially punching down that is actually punching up. Very cerebral stuff that is helped by impeccable timing and acting.

Yeah, Dark is not escapist at all. It’s a story that tries to get you to think. I also would not call it romantic, but possibly Romantic—you know, what people also call Gothic. Moody, emotional, but no real opening for shipping.

Of any current interest to me any longer.

I believe I said that already; thanks for the recco, anyway.

No worries. I figured there are other readers who might also be interested. Addressing you (and apologies for that), but speaking (er, writing) to all in the room.

I recently started re-watching Babylon 5 for the first time in 18 or 20 years, courtesy of a friend.

I am not sure if I’m going to re-watch the whole thing, because it might take to much time, and I’m not sure how much I will enjoy it. I really was annoyed by later episodes, as far as I remember. But the trip down memory lane is quite interesting, especially in the light of the current shift towards totalitarianism.

I agree. I’ve been watching on Comet TV, and the rise of President Clark and his Nightwatch (a not-so-secret, extra-judicial police force) feels a lot like what’s going on in the US government now. (Which is kind of scary to think about.)

Part of the problem with the last two seasons came down to the question of whether or not the show would get renewed for a fifth season. Just in case it ended earlier than planned, the creator rushed to finish the larger plot arcs in season four… only to find themselves greenlit for another year. The last season could be considered rougher as a result, though it’s still pretty good.

If you do skip the final season, I’d humbly recommend watching the last episode, Sleeping In Light. It’s very good, especially the musical score. (Since it was filmed with the fourth season, it still makes sense without viewing the episodes in between.)

Yeah, I remember even loosing interest after the “revelation” at the end of the fourth season (and oh dear, was I annoyed with the angelic imagery). I checked Wikipedia on the series, just in case, and I agree that basically everything about B5 wasn’t perfect or even un-annoying, but the overall package left a strong and lasting impact.

You can just skip season one (except for those two episodes I mentioned… maybe also they keep killing suzie, too?). Just start with season 2…

Thank you. I will probably try and give the first season a watch but will skip forward if it is too painful.

The “sex gas monster” episode is the worst (can’t remember the proper name), they’re all better than that one… Oh, Out of Time was a good episode from season 1, too.

With that title, I have to watch it now out of morbid curiosity.

It’s not the title, it’s just what I call it… it’s called Day 1, which is not nearly as funny or accurate as to the actual contents of the episode…

I prefer your custom title.

Me too… like I said, it’s far more accurate…

Looks like season 2 of Umbrella Academy will be released on Friday. Should be fun - though I’m really looking forward to season two of Russian Doll.

I’m here for it.

Also waiting for The Boys to come back.

I loved Russian Doll but I’m not sure I need a second season. The ending of season 1 was great and left me satisfied with an excellent arc.

Super excited for season 2 of the Boys.
