My wife is a really picky eater.
She refuses to eat shellfish, most types of fruit, certain vegetables and peanuts just because of “allergies.”
When spelled all-caps like that, it looks like something nefarious the US alphabet soup organizations have been doing to the American people. MKULTRA, COINTELPRO, CILANTRO.
Still, calling it “eating like little boys” is shitty and sexist.
I’m not getting into that conversation, and I’m not the GUY who wrote the article.
Today is a day for celebrating; have a good one.
Sadly, I have lost several friends under similar circumstances as well. All experts on rationalizing their resistance to a sane diet. I feel your pain.
Sadly, that’s me.
It went wrong after growing up eating very healthily (a necessity due to growing up in a single-income household). When I left home, I swung in the other direction and over-indulged in all those things that had previously been once-in-a-while treats.
It hit its worst when I moved to London to work in Soho. I had enough expendable income that I could afford to buy expensive, calorific lunches every day.
I got my diagnosis 4 years ago now.
Thankfully, I’ve managed to stay off of medication by drastically altering my diet. I’d actually gone vegetarian (for ethical reasons) just before being diagnosed, and have subsequently gone full vegan.
I did fall off of the wagon somewhat this Christmas. I stayed vegan, but fell back on comfort-eating habits.
Never again!
Building back up to my 5K run a day is painful.
My Dad was diagnosed about 20 years ago. He was on pills but in the last 10 years has managed with diet and exercise alone. He just avoids desserts other than fruit, cuts down on the portions of meat and starches, and introduced vegetable heavy meals once or twice a week into his diet.
His diagnosis got me scared enough to watch my own food intake/content. Luckily I like vegetables and exotic cuisines.
I could handle vegetarian easily once in a while. But vegan means giving up Indian (they generally cook it in clarified butter) and I like it too much.
You are far braver than I.
