The same person who produced the apprentice was in charge of programming at NBC. He is the one who gave Trump’s presidential campaign so much free air time early in his campaign because he knew Trump is a ratings draw. I’ll try to find the article on that.

You are correct. Being LD has nothing to do with intelligence, no more than having poor eyesight does. The whole “but they’re really intelligent” thing got associated for the same reason as poor eyesight – once it’s been compensated for, school performance can improve dramatically.
Contrary to @anon50609448’s assertion re: Trump not reading and intelligence, I don’t think Trump’s lack of reading means he’s stupid. What has been shown by his words and across is that he’s staggeringly ignorant, and seems lacking in empathy. Both those things are easily remedied by reading books.
And again: he has had the means all his life to correct this, without losing public face. He could have even spun it as a “secret struggle” in the tabloids once he’d achieved more proficiency.
