Yes they do. The thing is, up until now, we have had very little control over the weed we got, nor could we be too picky about sativa or indica etc… So most of us never learned that indica strains produce deep relaxation, and a more low-key feeling that is appropriate for before bed or a relaxing activity, or that sativas provide a stimulating, energetic and cerebral feeling that is more appropriate for daytime use. If you are curious, I’ll tell you the most important things about picking up again.
Briefly research the difference between sativa, indica, and hybrids.
Once you decide what it is you are looking for, be able to articulate to your budtender that you are just experimenting for the first time (I know it’s not your first time, but tell him it is anyways just to see if he knows anything) and what type of symptoms or feelings you are about. You can talk openly, lol, this tripped me out the first time too. I thought we would have to use code words or some shit, like ‘water pipe’ instead of ‘bong’. Pay close attention to the budtender: if he recommends ANY product with a higher than 9% thc level, he doesn’t know shit. politely thank him and walk out. I can share from recent experience as someone who just eased back into smoking after a very long period of abstinence, if you are trying to alleviate stress or anxiety related depression (fatigue, loss of appetite or eating only shit food, no libido, obsession with death, etc) that you want to start with a 2:1 CBD to THC ratio with around 3-5% THC, preferably a sativa dominant hybrid and an indica dominant hybrid. The sativa is for morning and daytime (think of it as a cup of coffee) and the indica is for relaxation and before bedtime (think of it as a potent cup of chamomile tea).
Wait until you have a few days off with no responsibilities, no stress, and try a hit or two of that indica two or three hours before you usually go to bed the night before. Don’t obsess over whether you are ‘high’ or not, pay attention to how you feel, your energy level, etc, and just fucking relax. There is a lot of mental fucking noise and nonsense packed into the term ‘high’ in America, let it all go. Try the sativa in the morning.
One indica dominant strain in particular I highly recommend for depression is ‘CBD Critical Cure’. (Another good strategy is smoke a strain like CBD Critical Cure throughout the day and supplement with a higher THC (8-20% THC) sativa dominant strain when you need a pick me up, but that works better later once you have a little tolerance).
Edit: One last pro-tip: Everyone and their mother-in-law is going to tell you to go to Leafly.com for strain info. Don’t, Leafly is terrible and next to useless. Go to all bud.com instead; their descriptions of particular effects from particular strains is startlingly accurate.
This is hands down my favorite strain. It just completely blasts me open creatively.
Actually… I’ve never gotten stoned. Drank some, but that was more to shut family up to say I’d tried it. Booze holds no appeal to me.

If you are comfortable smoking, it’s a good way to go for a beginner. You have much more control over dosage and it doesn’t last as long when you smoke, so you have a little more control and room to experiment. If you have the means, get a simple glass bong (get from a head shop, dispensaries fleece people on glass. i got a nice hand-blown glass bong at a head shop for $25, same bong would have been $50-65 at a dispensary), a pipe is murder on the throat. Change your bong water daily and keep the glass bowl clean if you enjoy the taste of bud. Once you have your herb, break off pieces just big enough to burn without getting swallowed down the stem hole (1/2 to 2/3 the size of a pea at first). Gently pull from the bong so you can burn the herb without sucking it through. Wait 1-15 mins and hit it again. If you’ve never smoked, it’s important to remember marijuana may or may not effect you normally the first time or even first few times you smoke, so take it easy, and take it slow. Some beginners are like ‘it’s not working, ill just keep smoking or eating or vaping or whatever’, and then they’ve burned a gram and it hits them and they are fucked up and hate weed forever.
The whole point of smoking like this is a) start small to see if it helps and if you like the strain b) half-burned weed tastes like shit, so just load one-hit sized bowls unless you smoking socially, then do whatever seems appropriate. If you are serious about using this for depression, we can take this PM and I can share what strains have helped me. Marijuana can help, but it’s a learning curve and some trial and error, and you have to take the initiative to figure out what’s going to work for you. For me personally, I have mostly enjoyed the process and am getting better in a lot of meaningful and substantial ways.
One random thing no one told me and I learned the hard way: if you are prone to manic phases, avoid straight sativas. For me personally, high THC pure sativa can make me feel manic.

I can’t smoke right now due to some bronchial inflammation, but edibles take too long, potentially last too long, and are unpredictable if you haven’t had that exact brand before. Are there any delivery methods with the advantages of smoking/dabbing/vaping that don’t involve inhaling anything?
Good question. I have seen sublingual extract drops that are supposed to work pretty quickly and offer pretty fine dose control. Have you considered making your own butter, a good size batch, for uniformity and for estimating appropriate dose once you know the strength? I’m kind of new to edibles, was a little spooked after I got too stoned from eating too much. You could try doing a higher cbd strain butter for butter; you would get nice but not disfunctional.

That’s my main reason for pronouncing it like gift, minus the T; it just makes logical sense.
The guy going on an award show 20 years later to tell everyone “oh, you’ve been doing it wrong all this time” just seemed like a contrary ploy for attention.

Right or wrong, my assertion remains; the guy only said it to push some buttons IMO, and that makes me even less inclined to pronounce it the way he says.
