White SC cops pull black passenger out of car, take turns publicly cavity-searching him

Did you just attack an unverifiable hyperbole with an absolute statement of fact about the motivations of all members of the police?

Re-read what you wrote! That was silly.

Google external vs internal IA complaints. Not hard.

Iā€™ll wait.

Yup.

I had a mate who was a prison guard. Really nice guy, I wouldā€™ve trusted him with my life.

A few years ago, one of his colleagues made it into the news. There was video of him punching a prisoner in the face, full power, while another guard held the prisonerā€™s arms pinned, about twenty-five times.

The cause of this incident? The prisoner spat at him.

My mate was outraged that his colleague was dismissed from the force. Not imprisoned, not fined, not charged, just sacked.

He thought that this was an obvious and huge injustice, and that his colleagueā€™s actions were entirely excused by the psychological stress of the job. Give him a bit of counselling, tell him not to do it again, that sort of thing.

We arenā€™t close these days.

Violent overthrows whether internal or external end with ā€œThis is Bobā€¦ Heā€™s gonna run things for awhile.ā€

Whether or not cops fulfil a necessary function I think is debatable.

How about shooting cops in self defense, or defense of others? If I see somebody about to possibly kill a non-violent person, should I not intervene simply because they supposedly occupy some abstract ā€œroleā€? (And a role that supposedly is of service, rather than privilege). I prefer to simply restrain violent assholes than hurt them, but I donā€™t know if I can honestly say that I would never take a life to protect the lives of innocent (read: non-violent) people. Why cut cops a break when they tend to be amongst the worst offenders?

I can empathise if cops feel beleaguered, but they also do have a choice of whether or not to wander around being violent bullies, or do something socially beneficial instead. If they donā€™t subordinate themselves to the public they serve, they are just yet another sketchy rando skulking around with a gun, and should not be surprised if they are treated accordingly.

That might be a problem inherent in putting some people in charge of other people. Itā€™s not like there arenā€™t ways to prevent entrenched power structures from forming, but surprise! there has usually been a loud crowd who con others into trusting them anyway.

If cops cavity searched me, I would probably push them over the edge by pretending to enjoy it just a little too much. Grinding on them, fucking their hand, etc. Theyā€™d probably knock me around and then charge ME with sexual assault, which would be very difficult for them to explain.

I would find those cops later.

I feel itā€™s what the founderā€™s would have intended.

I meanā€¦ Those guys were violent revolutionaries.

Was the American Revolution a true revolution? King George remained on the throne, and most of the folks in power in the colonies, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, remained in power.

Ha, I see what you did there.

Iā€™m a leftist libertarian.

I see a way to limit government and laws and have just a fewā€¦ Promote social programs the right way and foster an environment for people and they live happy productive lives.

Libertarianism, like capitalism, are powerful toolsā€¦ Made by leftists for leftists. Coopted by right wing fucks. Same with government. Same with law.

They donā€™t do it because they like it. They do it because they enjoy humiliating people and causing them pain.

Unfortunately, not very likely. Open that pandoraā€™s box, and every doctor who checks for prostate cancer is up the creek as wellā€¦

This may get me killed some day, but if I am ever in the same situation, I donā€™t think the trickster in me could help but to rhythmically push back against his hand and to say something like ā€œooh! Youā€™ve done this before. What time do you get off work?ā€. Given the testosterone pumped machismo of your average cop, thatā€™s probably the fastest way to conclude a cavity search.

Thereā€™s gotta be a difference legally between sexual assault and a medical procedure.

My dad, many moons ago, in his childhood made a friend with this kid from South America. Turned out this kid was a child soldier in his home country, and had fought in a Guerilla war. They had immigrated for a better life.

Once when my father was playing with this kid, a cop yelled at them and startled them. He thought they were vandalizing something, and they werenā€™t. They were poor kids pretending to be Superman and using a phone booth as a prop. He was an overweight cop. When they ran he couldnā€™t keep up. So he shot at them. And missed.

A couple of days after that the police station burned down.

Iā€™m not condoning thisā€¦

But I think the difference here was that 12 yr old child soldier had agency and didnā€™t know he was supposed to be all oppressed and scared.

I think police donā€™t realize who they are fucking with anymore.

Itā€™s not 1850. People are showing restraint. Non-violent protest is a choice. Itā€™s a lot harder to do that then get some gas and a match.

I think the cities do. And I think the media does. And I think the people get it. Someone should tell the police.

This shitā€™s gonna get a bunch of people killed if cops donā€™t reform. And fast. Things are volatile now, and anger can spread like wildfire with the modern telecommunications.

Vernacular journalism by any rando with a story changes everything.

That could never happen in America - that would be socialism.

I think the point is that parts of the US already are de facto police states, though seemingly on small scales, and more so if you are members of a minority.

From what Iā€™ve heard of the Soviet Union, much the same applied. Middle class people in middle class jobs really didnā€™t have anything to worry about post-Stalin. The KGB could be anything from violent thugs to educated people who were sincere about persuading people of the merits of communism. Guess which ones you would find in a university or in newspaper offices?

Iā€™m not justifying the Soviet Union, just pointing out that there are similarities in the way people are pushed into conformity. One way in which the issue comes to peopleā€™s attention, of course, is when one of the violent thug police gets a job in a university or a school and does something like pepper spray students for no reason.
