I certainly have no reason to think well of the guy; but that seems a little weird as a motive when it’s specifically the bodies for which a relative hasn’t been identified, and the harm is being done to funeral home operators, who aren’t exactly up there with car dealerships in terms of local political clout but aren’t in the same category as dead poors.

I wonder if, since they are indigent, the funeral homes would be able to apply for reimbursement from the city to recover their costs, and Hoen doesn’t want to pay it?

This is disgusting. He’s violating a sacred trust to care for the dead & to respect the poor. By the way, indigent people may have family & friends who can’t afford cremation costs (now upwards of $1000) but are waiting to hear that their loved one’s remains have been laid to rest. When you see someone you love zipped into a black body bag & carried away in an unmarked van this is not the outcome you hope for.
