That’s what I’m saying. I had this wonderful 30lb mutt - lab mix something or rather. One of the most gentle dogs ever, who the only other time I’ve seen aggression from him was protecting an owner on a walk.
But when a stupid rabbit decided to have babies in our back yard, he became a murder machine.
We forget they are not only mostly carnivores, but we bred many of them to hunt.

The one I had when I was a kid was specifically bred to hunt… he was offspring of a line of field champions. We got him for five bucks from the family that originally owned him because he kept treeing bears in their back yard. They thought he was herding them down from the mountain, I think probably they always had bears in the yard and the other dog they had, a German Shepherd, was content to let them be 
Apart from the exaggerated hunting drive, he was very gregarious and smart.

I saw a meme where a bear kept bringing a dog a mostly eaten deer leg so it could look in the trash with out barking. Happened twice, according to the post.

wouldn’t surprise me, bears like junk food. Trade a nice piece of meat for maybe stale cookies 
Well, this was the '60s, so five bucks = FIVE BUCKS. Also, hounds are hard to find homes for. I got one of my Basset Hounds from a shelter when a woman that worked there knew that I liked hounds called me just before they euthanized him. Great dogs, but you have to be prepared to accept some peculiarities

Actually to get rid of mole crickets you need to pour sand soaked with kerosene near the garden.
Or attract blackbirds.

No wonder it blew up only a part of the yard and not the full house/ burrow.
And no wonder the dogs did not catch ‘gophers’ - catching ants would be a tad difficult for them
Nowadays gopher is almost extinct. Everybody is on port 80. On the other hand especially on java circles ant is common.
Makes sense.

When I lived in Floriduh, we used borax to try to discourage mole crickets.
thats pretty reasonable…
So this story just bubbled up on my local news today. According to them, he was trying to get rid of roaches, not gophers.
