One thing I have to say: I don’t like Clinton. I know a lot of people here don’t like Clinton and with good reason. But when I look at her favourability numbers and the number of people who really don’t like her, I just think it’s got to be based in huge part on sexism. Like there is something very suspicious about people all of the sudden complaining about Wall Street connections and war mongering. It could just reflect an inevitable shift in public consciousness away from self-destructive policies but that seems optimistic. The idea that so many people might agree with me is just too implausible.
Even if I believed Clinton planned on following through with ANY of that after election based on her long history of changing stances for political expedience, I am going to need to hear from her how the vast large sums of money she or the Clinton Foundation has received from every one of those institutions she is claiming she is going to clean up (big pharm, fossil fuel, private prison contractors, banks all have given her astronomical sums over the years) will or will not influence her actions. Pretending like it’s a non-issue isn’t doing it for me.
If you respond, please leave Trump out of it. I am asking about Clinton. I am fully apprised of what Trump is about.
We’ve had in the last few years:
- the 2008 economic crisis, bankers given free money instead of going to jail
- Occupy Wall Street
- the meme of the 1% vs the 99%
- Rootstrikers
- Piketty
- mainstream and not-so-mainstream news articles about income inequality
- Elizabeth Warren
- news stories about representatives who spend 70% of their time fundraising for the next election, not actually doing what they’re paid and elected to do
- also the most disliked House and Senate ever
And then Bernie Sanders comes along, agitating about money in politics, and criticizing Hillary’s Wall Street connections.
The Bernie supporters in my circles have mostly been people who really wanted Jill Stein all along but (A) are afraid to vote third party or (B) threw support behind Bernie because he seemed to have an actual chance of being elected.
That said, even some of the socialists have been kind of strident and sexist about Hillary in terms of language choices, even if most of their actual critique is valid, and that’s annoyed me.
Why (** *** ***) to vote for Hillary Clinton
See post #948 of this thread topic.
You may also want to examine the 2016 Democratic Party Platform, that has just been negotiated and agreed upon by the Democratic Party, Clinton and Sanders campaigns. It is the most liberal and progressive Democratic Party Platform in the history of the Democratic Party.
With all the tragedy and sorrow last week, the following has been underreported and unnoticed by some people. The improvement in the economy will be a factor in the 2016 presidential general election.
When the less than expected (and less than what we have been used to hearing), job numbers were announced last month, Donald Trump, for cheap political gain,
could not refrain himself from mentioning and condemning the May jobs report.
Silence from Trump in July.
Quashing worries that job growth is flagging, the government on Friday reported that employers increased payrolls by 287,000 in June, an arresting surge that could reframe the economic debate just weeks before Republicans and Democrats gather for their conventions.
The official unemployment rate did rise to 4.9 percent, from 4.7 percent, but that was largely because more Americans rejoined the work force. And average hourly earnings ticked up again, continuing a pattern of rising wages that brought the yearly gain to 2.6 percent.
“Wow, this one takes my breath away,” said Diane Swonk, an independent economist in Chicago…
…Lynn Vavreck, a professor of political science at University of California, Los Angeles, said that when it came to presidential elections, the economic trend was more important than any particular number. “As long as it’s going in the right direction,” she said, “that’s a good sign for the incumbent party"…
Talk about attempting to influence the voting electorate, by “rigging polling results” before the Republican National Convention.
Quinnipiac polling, like Rasmussen polling, is a disgrace because of its manipulative and blatant bias in favor of republican candidates.
Given Donald Trumps fascination with white supremacists and anti-Semitism, the following is inevitable and expected.

The email continued, as Lookstein explained why he chose to back out.
“Unfortunately, when my name appeared on a list of speakers at the convention, without the context of the invocation I had been invited to present, the whole matter turned from rabbinic to political, something which was never intended,” Lookstein wrote, according to Politico.
Lookstein also reportedly received a letter from 600 alumni at the Orthodox Jewish school Ramaz – where he was once the principal – which stated, this is the single action history will remember you by, and history will not be kind."
Why (** *** ***) to vote for Hillary Clinton
“Two of a Kind”
Other than Donald Trump, no greater reason than Donald Trumps selection of Mike Pence to be a heart-beat away from being–President of the United States.

Dear Donald Trump
Great new political ad from the Hillary Clinton campaign, aired during the opening of the Republican National Convention. Bernie supporter at 1:34
Why (** *** ***) to vote for Hillary Clinton
If Donald Trump cannot hire and manage a presidential campaign, it is a red flag revealing how he would govern if elected President of the United States. If Donald Trump has not vetted his own wife’s past history–or made sure his paid staff has vetted a major speech (approved by Donald Trump), that his wife was scheduled to give–he is not prepared for the crucial and salient job of President of the United States of America.
More news on Melania Trump.
Is this an example of trying to be something that you aren’t, for political reasons?–i e.,
Where is Donald Trumps tax returns?
Hello, my name is Melania “LaVaughn” Trump, I stand before you tonight to bear witness that no matter what your ethnicity is, or what cultural environment you are born into–you can be successful in life. As a descendant of slaves, I bear testimony that even as a black child growing up on the south side of Chicago, Illinois; I learned the values of responsibility, determination and hard work, as I watched my mother toil as a full-time homemaker and my father travail as a city water employee.
My parents instilled in me the importance of education, which inspired me to attend Princton University and eventually Harvard Law School, were I attained my law degree.
Tonight, I stand before you with my ancestors and parents in my heart–and deliver a speech (that I wrote, with very little help), to the Republican National Convention and the American public. I will be honored if allowed–to become your next First Lady of the United States of America.
what part of people in this thread saying “We don’t need to hear about Trump’s negatives; we know. We want Hillary’s positives” do you not get?
So you’re admitting you can’t think of any positive reasons to vote Hillary?
I am happy to repeat myself…
See post #948 of this thread topic.
You may also want to examine the 2016 Democratic Party Platform, that has just been negotiated and agreed upon by the Democratic Party, Clinton and Sanders campaigns. It is the most liberal and progressive Democratic Party Platform in the history of the Democratic Party.
…however, Donald John Trump is not truthful about repeating himself.
I’m confused. It is just an expanded Pell grant system. Pell grants are for a fixed amount set by the Federal government.
She never said you could attend any school for free. Some schools may choose not to participate just like some schools don’t accept Pell grants.
As someone still occasionally self-conscious of my (mostly corrected) strabismus, this ad made me smile. Go you. Go all of you.
You will be less confused if you read her proposal, which is not simply an expansion of Pell grants.
Well… she was a Senator, so we can actually look at bills she actually put her name to related to the groups you specifically mentioned (because I’m too lazy to look up any others). Let’s look at some, shall we?
- Homeowner Protection and Wall Street Accountability Act of 2009 (co-sponsor - anti-bank)
- Helping Families Save Their Homes in Bankruptcy Act of 2008 (co-sponsor - anti-bank)

Honestly, I’m stopping. I’m 20% through her legislative history and I’m tired of looking. She’s clearly gone against the people who have financed her campaign in ways that no one who was bought would do.
I mean this is a woman who wrote a bill called the Environmental Justice Renewal Act and people are treating her like she’s Dick Cheney.
No, but she was definitely to the right of Sanders.
Here’s a list of the issues they voted differently on
http://occupydemocrats.com/2016/03/30/31-senate-bills-hillary-bernie-voted-differently/
We’d have to look a lot of the bills up, but some (like Estate tax changes) would tend to read left.
