Can you explain? Most of the anarcho-primitivists I have had to deal with are hair-shirt greens, I’m not seeing that from the lyrics.
At this point I’d guess there as many words in this thread as the DFW article, and his article was somehow much more wonderful to work through for me (not that the comments aren’t their own kind of fun).

I know of only one language with a public governing authority: French.
Even the standards-loving Germans have an unregulated language and the important dictionaries (like Duden or Österreichisches Wörterbuch) don’t define standards but update the books based on the actual use and changes of the written and spoken language.

Mixed in with a heavy dose of self-loathing. Reznor has come a long way since 1994 and I mean that in a positive sense. I like the contemporary, self-reconciled, increasingly outward-looking Reznor better.
That he’s now a father might, just might, have something to do with this development.

I always took that lyric to mean that he wanted to get real ‘primal’ with it, but maybe that was just my personal interpretation…

And French would need it. At one point it was the official language for both science and diplomacy. So you needed one international standard for non-native speakers to use it in official capacities.
Use “literally”.
Literally can mean figuratively because most of the time the context gives away what the author or speaker is saying.
