I seem to dimly remember being told off for using the word ‘retard’ by someone who then used the word ‘idiot’.
The problem is you end up left with no perjoratives at all, since all perjoratives are perjorative through reference to some state that is deemed undesirable.

"2 donkeys plus 3 horses minus the healthy ones gives total sick animals, multiplied by six for how many doses we need total. Then subtract eight for how many doses of medicine we have on hand and we have the number that we need to order or send back. On second thought, let’s make it so we have enough doses for one animal for a week with a couple days leeway for extra doses in case I need to wait for an order to arrive, add ten to make it eight and multiply by three in case I need it for more than one animal.

Ironic, that. Also out are imbecile, cretin and moron, which, like idiot, are old terms for various levels of mental disability. But not to worry, insulting people by calling them “ableist” would seem to be fine…

Except that it’s not an insult.
We need to be able to refer to racist, sexist, ableist, etc. actions, policies, political alignments, etc.
We need to be able to refer to ill-thought-out actions, policies, political alignments, etc. I don’t think mocking disabilities helps with that.

There’s definitely a market for really, really offensive, mocking terms for scum like Trump that isn’t based on ableist, racial or gendered slurs.
