The thing for me is, Neanderthals knew enough to have a middens away from the living area, but modern humans need reminding not to shit and piss where they swim? I’ve read plenty about London’s disgusting 19th century waste problems, and I’m sure they weren’t unique. It seemed to take forever to convince people that bodily waste going into a common water supply was a potential issue. Why is this even a problem for us? Yaaghh, even pre-neolithics knew enough to keep the common areas free from waste.
