With apologies, it is overwhelmingly in the media's interest that Trump wins

Other people have tried Trump’s approach. Ron DeSantis, for example. It only seems to work for Trump. He seems to be a singular figure.

I think it IS the problem that Rob’s post is about. I read it as analysis of how the Mighty Wurlitzer (as peeps used to call it) Works, especially some parts of it the feed parasitically off the host that is Tromp (and us, or our eyeballs…the metaphor gets complicated). I also don’t read the post as defeatist, since it includes a realistic calls for positive action and change. :person_shrugging:

It is in the sense that few people are reading any of it, but readers are required for it to continue.

I dunno. The part about the debate sounded pretty fucking defeatist.

Maybe she’s a secret golfer!

Which part? How so?

Normal political candidates dance a very careful dance, like Harris will likely do. I’d love to see her take the gloves off and trounce Tromp, but what are the chances of that? As for Tromp, I agree that he’ll likely muzzle himself like he did last time, and do better than expected, which will distract the very wise corporate talking heads yet again from the horrors of what he actually says (horrors that the moderators are also very likely to refrain from calling him on). And yes, I think we are likely to get concerned analysis of how well she did, rather than horrified condemnation of what he said.

I hope wonderful surprises occur instead, but I too will find that, well, surprising.

Again, not defeatist, I think, just an explanation of how Tromp still consumes oxygen as a candidate, and of why very little is likely to be changed by this debate. He’s too good for the cash coffers for “journalists” to drag him down like the rogue elephant he is. Saying so says little about who’s likely to win the election.

So BB is not going to endorse Harris, because you need the traffic?

is that really what you got from reading Rob’s post?

Rob admitted that BB is subset of said media and

it is overwhelmingly in the media’s interest that ■■■■■ wins

I probably should have put /s at the end of my post.

What has happened to this Rob?

Mostly. One would hope.

I want to be bored, and occasionally delighted, by the news.

I’m pretty sure we’re endorsing her every day one way or another. I wonder if we formally did it, as BB, if it would make a difference to personal endorsements?

As I recall, worrying commenced.

Tough to measure.

Do what you feel makes the most sense and that you will be able to look back on and think you made the right call. Obviously going to be easy for us to critique whatever you do when most of us don’t have any skin in the game.

I admitted that I am a subset of said media. I don’t think anyone else feels the same way. BB (and old-school blogging generally) has a latitude and freedom that you don’t get in mainstream media, there’s no reason for anyone doing it to feel subject to all that stuff the way mainstream reporters, editors and pundits might.

But the Trump=Traffic thing is for real and the basic problem—it suggests writing about him but writing about him inevitably gives him earned media—is quite a puzzle.

He can’t keep snorting Adderall at his age without consequences.

Maybe on the stage!
