My children are amazed by the adblock on when I watch YouTube and the fact that I flat out refuse to watch YouTube on the television as I can’t adblock there.

The staff at places like BoingBoing will be the second group of people Trump will have lined up against the wall. They’ll be after immigrants but before ‘major’ news outlets.
I agree with the point made that we need to stop feeding the beast with views and clicks. I stopped watching TV news years ago, but I do still read stories about the Mayor of Mar-a-Lardo.

Yeah, I find it alarming just how accepting of this so many people are.
There’s something even more fundamental than privacy about it, and this is that I simply don’t want someone trying to sell me something while I’m trying to relax.

Even I’m not the best advocate out there and being somewhat hypocritical, as I’m quite heavily invested into various aspects of Google, including smart home stuff, Google Drive and a YouTube Premium account.
I have gone out of my way to eliminate actual ads from my life. My main browser is always Firefox with ublock Origin, Clickbait Remover for YouTube, and Sponsorblock (among other things). Those last two in particular make a massive difference, and are highly recommended. Maybe not as big an impact as ublock, but they get rid of the residual bullshit you have to put up with that it doesn’t catch.
I also think I’m also going to go that extra mile and turn one of my Raspberry Pi boxes into a Pi Hole. As @robertmckenna points out, my “Smart” TV is trying to force extra services down my throat on the home page. It’s only a hop, skip and a jump to full-on advertising.
Maybe that PiHole should also become a media center.
And it hits me in the face like a sledgehammer whenever I have to use the web or watch TV without all of this stuff, re-assuring me that I’ve made the right decision.
At a very basic level, advertising is psychological violence.

I said usually! There are notable exceptions, but those cults grew into somewhat mainstream religions. The MAGA cult members are largely already part of a “mainstream” religion and I don’t think that Trump worship will replace it for most.

Yes, there are some interesting perspectives from the Spanish, French and German newspapers of record, also the Times of India.
PiHole makes a noticeable difference on my network. And it’s shocking how much traffic it blocks. Seeing the sources (my Roku is number one) is eye opening as well. Visibility is one of the side benefits I didn’t anticipate.
And a super cheap Pi Zero W is perfectly powerful enough for PiHole. Use something bigger (and separate) if you want a media center.
[ETA] I will never activate a Smart (Spy) TV nor give any TV internet connectivity as long as I can help it. I’ll provide my own chosen streaming devices/sources, thank you ver much. My TV should be a monitor and a tuner, with switchable inputs. Nothing more.
