Yes: as mentioned above, in the U.S. jail is a temporary holding situation, whereas prison is where you go to serve a sentence. If someone says “I’ve been to jail” that means by definition they’ve never actually been sentenced to prison or they would know to phrase it that way.

when i read jailed i think somebody is placed behind bars that are locked and they are close enough together that you cant slip through them and there are also walls present preventing one from leaving for a measurable period of time which would presumably be no less than the time it takes to lock and unlock the lock and probably longer i think
