It’s a very weird emotion isn’t it? “I see someone suffering and therefore I have sympathy with them and feel bad for them but I don’t like feeling bad so I am angry at them for being there and suffering.” It’s like they can almost make it to caring about someone other than themselves but then turn it around so that it is even worse than being indifferent about others. It’s monstrous.
