Next generation PDF?
As in responsible for a huge percentage of malware infections?
More evidence that Capitalism fails once you have too much money.
Yahoo should buy facebook and make it “the next generation JPG”.
How about they make it the “Next Generation MySpace”?
The “next generation” PDF is probably documentcloud.
I tend to download the pdfs to my computer and re do the OCR.
Does Karp even know what a PDF, or even Tumblr are? Or is he just throwing terms he’s overheard “the cool kids” saying into a random word salad, and hoping it somehow turns into money?
saying he thought Tumblr had the potential to “create the next generation PDF,”
Was Shingy consulting for Yahoo on the side? “Tummmblr! PDF, yeah? Next gener-AY-tion, yeahhh?”
With the insane amounts of feature bloat that PDFs have undergone, I’m a little surprised that no one has tried to start a social media site completely built on inputs from fillable PDF forms. Kinda like building an RPG in excel spreadsheets, but more absurd. If I do it, I’ll post on my tumblr.
Just for the record: Karp didn’t say this (Karp founded Tumblr). It was said by an executive “overseeing Karp.”
Why are so many tech executives not qualified to do an entry level tech job?
Apple’s PDF reader is very fast (withe perhaps the exception of some of the more agressive compression schemes used by archive.org, among others), produces really nice renders, and does not support some of the more niche applications associated with forms.
Telling your users to install an Adobe Reader plugin is kind of a turnoff.
The same reason so many executives in other industries have comparable qualifications.
To be fair, PDF porn WAS probably the way to go in 1993.
I work with PDFs all day. If there is one thing PDFs are missing it’s black and white BDSM gifs, kink memes, and angsty poetry.
Maybe he was confused, and meant “The next generation OPP”?
