Hear, hear! Not every meal is a fancy sit-down affair. If Iām in the mood for a burrito or a taco, Iāll go to Chipotle or Taco Hell or Taco Cabana or pertty much wherever. Iām not so highbrow that I need a fancy taco every time.
The bottom line is that everyone takes dirty shits after tacos, and all tacos give it to you.

These are true facts. Iām not a huge gun freak. And I think there are way too many guns on the streets, especially in the hands of criminals. And, I think the police shoot far too many people in the USA. And I think the NRA are a bunch of lying assholes who will say anything to keep the proliferation of firearms flowing freely.
That said, going after concealed-carry law as a way to reduce gun violence is barking up the wrong tree. The data, what little of it we have, do not support the premise that concealed-carriers are more likely to commit violence. Just the opposite, really.
We should be concentrating on tightening up the ridiculous āstand your groundā laws, like Floridaās, make the castle laws more consistent nationwide, and really crack down on criminals in possession. As well as improving background checks or even requiring psych exams to get a semi-auto long gun or any gun with a high-cap mag. Or even banning them outright and sending criminals to prison for life if they are caught with a super powerful high-cap rifle.
I wouldnāt have a problem with that. I know a lot of gun rights people would, but fuck 'em. They might shoot straight, but they donāt see so straight.
Objectively, guns should be hard to get. They should exist, but they should be rare.

OK. Let me explain this so that you can understand.
Typically, on a military base, the average person cannot carry a gun. ONLY the security personal can carry a gun. And, if I am not mistaken, they are typically clustered around the entrances checking all people entering. I suspect that armed personnel patrol the borders, but I doubt that a lot of them patrol the buildings and offices during daytime.
Any present or former military want to add some more details?

As for me, I just want to be left alone and not have others tell me how to live.
And I am sorry, but I really DO feel that the founding fathers of this country knew what they were doing, and I trust their wisdom far more than that of any living person today ā especially those people who would try to take away the freedoms that our forefathers fought for.

When a sociopath is waving a gun in your face, I submit that the time for debate over their motives is over.
In the aforementioned case we are unable to question the killer as to their intentions as they have āmet their makerā as they are oft to say.

As to conflict resolution. Should passerbys not alert the authorities if they see the Chipotle getting robbed because, per your reasoning, a police presence would āescalateā the matter?
I would not shoot someone over a property crime, but I understand things can get out of hand very quickly and I would not want to trust that the intentions of the proximal, armed sociopath are benign. While you are consulting your recollections of pleasant, feel good NPR stories for advice what to do, the robber may well cavitate your skull.

The reference to the Black Panther Party probably refers to the Mulford Act enacted in 1967 under Ronald Reagan during his period as Governor of California. This act effectively restricted citizens from carrying guns in public and created one of the countries most strict gun control regulations.

The NRA, while having a less hardline stance in the 60s, was actually used by several black leaders in the 60s for rights defense, setting up NRA charters and clubs in the south. Certainly in the last couple decades they have supported blacks gun rights. Iāve seen an NRA booth run by a black gentleman, with signs and charts touting how gun control is racist. Two high profile cases they supported had black plaintiffs, Heller in the case vs Washington DC, and McDonald vs Chicago. Their newest spokesperson, Colion Noir, is black. Anyone who wants to stereotype the current NRA as being full of white racists looking to keep the black man unarmed is out of touch with reality.
And just a note, several remnants of āJim Crowā still exist in some states with regards to gun laws. One example is needed a Sheriff sign off on a hand gun purchase. On the surface that may not seem too bad - but when the law was made it was made to keep guns out of the hands of blacks.
