The idea that rest and sleep are wasted of time ties in with the trouble some people have with sitting alone with their thoughts. Introspection is absolutely not a valued activity these days. Just look at the grief introverts still get just for not being interested in being social all of the time.
And that concoction is likely to cause intestinal distress.

That sounds like a super fun show at a great venue, I’m jealous. I wish I had a better brain for enjoying live music.

You don’t want me borrowing your books, I only had my copy of Once and Future King for a day before spilling tea all over it. Also working my way through Parzival right now, which could take a while as that’s a real “read a single paragraph 3 times, then take a nap” kinda book. Like reading the bible, but somehow more fascist and hard to follow.

A quick calculation shows that one can get that much sugar from 235 ml (just under a cup) of maple syrup, but it’s harder to pull through a straw and so customer turnover would be negatively affected.

Flavoring, yeah - which are actually smells - but things that the tongue detects, such as sweetness, not so much. This particular product is also using multiples of the amount of sugar other similar products are, and those other products are already too sweet themselves, so…

I guess it’s part of a larger trend where sugar is added to products that didn’t used to have it, and multiple types of sweeteners are added to sweet things because that way they can make it taste even sweeter than if they just used sugar alone.

Here in the UK, one coffee chain has Bonfire Spice, which I think is cinnamon, nutmeg, damp leaves and unlucky hedgehog.

They way they determine it is to let people taste two preparations of whatever they’re testing. Each has different amounts of sugar. Then they ask “Which one tastes better?”

Lather, rinse, repeat, until the one with more sugar doesn’t taste as good at the one with less.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but coffee always tastes little bitter to me, so much so that I squirt cow juice in my cup.

Starbucks espresso-- bitter
Starbucks coffee-- bitter

and at home:

aeropress coffee-- bitter
Flair Espresso-- not bitter

You have to take it in context of the entire “meal”. If the patron is eating a couple donuts, and wants something sweet to wash it down, you have to outsweet the donuts. So it’s an arms race between the donuts and the “beverage”.

That sounds weird to me. If I was eating donuts, I’d want something to drink that would cut the sweetness a little, cleanse the palate between bites, you know?

Step one use less than boiling water, two warm your cup a bit (I pour a bit of boiling water, leave for 30 secs and dump out), three buy coffees that lean towards chocolate/dates/caramel in flavor, avoid the ones that use fruit to describe them, cherry, plum, etc.

I agree, it’s complete madness to eat that much sugar, but that’s portions of the American palate for you.
