I want to echo those mentioning the first aid kit. I know it’s not necessarily “fun,” as presents go, but having one can avoid a LOT of trouble. Oh, and make sure it includes cortisone or something for itchy bites and rashes.
Also, it wouldn’t really help with making kindling (we have twigs aplenty where we camp) but we have a cheaper version of one of these that’s lighter weight than a lot of the other blades mentioned re: firewood:
It came in a little camping kit in a tin that included the saw, a compass, a flint fire starter and some other useful stuff.
Another nice gift might be some fire starters. I made some last year and they made great gifts.
