Reviews for a "Sexy PhD" costume

They don’t all have stripes on the sleeve. My PhD regalia was a plain black gown.

This is de rigueur for any conversation involving “sexy costumes”:

I have the impression that sexy or not, its the figure underneath the clothes that makes they sexyness.

Oh come on Cory. You’re telling me you don’t like a bit of dress up with your missus? Her as say a PhD Nurse and you as a Fireman? Do you look at porn?

It’s fun and sexy. Do we have to break everything down to it’s social implications? At what point do we stop being humans having fun and become politically correct robots being politically correct.

I should add that i don’t find the op costume particular sexy.

Ah, yes, “politically correct robots”. As I recently said, as soon as someone says the meaningless phrase “politically correct” in any sort of serious man, I roll my eyes and stop paying attention. You made it even more eye-roll worthy by adding “robots.”

Yeah who cares about the blatant sexism (and predictability just plain lack of creativity!) that has become of the Halloween costume industry! Political correct robots! PC PC PC robots!!

Besides, if you re-read his commentary combined with context of his post at large and these particular comments, the irony is that YOU are the one taking a rather light-heatarted and goofy post and making it super serious. Personally, I think you’re the PC robot! Is there a plug I can pull so we don’t have to hear your inevitable missing-the-point response?

What’s next? Sheeple? Come on, I know you wanna call us sheeple!

Well, there have been non-scary options for a long time, like little kids as pumpkins. And there are always enough people trying to subvert or invert expectations making surprising, weird, or conceptual costumes to spark these kinds of things, and sometimes those people are considered cool, and companies jump right in afterwards with bizarre products. And not all of these are necessarily Halloween costumes originally. Maybe at one time that was an outfit designed for a pizza convention or a commercial. Idk.

It’s been happening since the 90’s. Altho, as someone who moved from the deserts of Arizona to Vermont this year, I saw way less “sexy” costumes on women. Probably not surprising for the obvious reasons lol

Pizza convention costumes? Really? Sigh. Compare the two pizza costumes. Note the glaring differences for the two genders? That is the point being made.

Speaking of politically correct robots (notes).

I’m trying to picture what a MALE “Sexy PhD” costume would look like. . . assuming there wasn’t a sizing issue, couldn’t he just wear the female costume? Or is the male version of this costume just a thong and a mortarboard?

My, that’s a big diploma you’ve got there!

Oh I got the humour of the post and I quite liked it, I just don’t like condescension. As for the rest of your response, I get what you’re saying - you’re better than me and I should just shut up.

At some level the “sexy-x” Halloween costume isn’t so much about objectification by others as it is about the person wearing it experimenting with a greater degree of sexuality than they are normally comfortable with. If they enjoy it great. If they don’t they can step back and say “That wasn’t really me, it was a costume, a role I was playing.”

Great so we’re so repressed that only a dissociative state and a cheap “sexy popcorn” costume can excuse a short skirt?

Sexy Pizza Couple have an excellent '70s paleo-future vibe going on, mind.

I rather imagine that there’s footage of sexy smurfs from, ah, the other side of the Hollywood sign, let’s say that pre-dates BBT…

It’s not so much about the costume giving one “permission” to wear a sexy outfit as about the sexy costume giving one “permission” to ACT sexy, IMHO. Most of us aren’t that comfortable with being overtly sexual. Of course it’s also about signaling that in the context of the particular party that one is comfortable with being regarded as sexy…Not to many people wearing these to work, I think. Unless their work involves pole dancing.
