"They're rapists," Donald Trump says of Mexican immigrants

Little shot of the US/Mexico border first:

Take note of the smaller fence between the PCT monument and the actual ‘border’ fence. Along that smaller fence are a bunch of little metal tags people have attached so their assholishness can glitter in the wind for years to come. Image of one of those tags:

You stay classy, America.

I tried to guess how many times the Trumpster was dropped on his head as a child, but I gave up.

Anybody remember Topp Trumps? You could have whole pack dedicated to Trump quotes and have different scores for rhetoric, self-obsession, illogic, not-supported-science, desperation, squirrels running loose. With the same pic of Donald on every card.

Because now Rick Santorum looks sane and sensible by comparison.

The same reason the republican party does anything…MONEY.

(to be fair the democrats are pretty corrupt these days too …broken system ~sighs~)

He seems to have confused the “Mariel boatlift,” where prisoners were being released from Cuban jails to go to the US, with normal immigration from other countries…

Nope. Violent crime rates, including rape, have been going down fairly continuously since 1990 in the US. His statements are nonsense based on nothing - as usual.

I wonder about this. Is it to make another candidate on the same side look better by contrast, or is it to make the opposition complacent because by and large the other side looks too nuts to win? Maybe it’s dual purpose?

Why does the Republican party even let these guys run and spout off this stuff in their name?[/quote]

Super PACs.

Most of these guys aren’t in it for the win. They’re in it to raise obscene amounts of untraceable campaign donations which they can use for anything they wish. Like retiring to a Caribbean island in luxury.

The RNC is pretty powerless to stop it since they’re also reliant on the same billionaires giving to the Super PACs. They aren’t about to rebuke billionaires for how they spend their money while their hand is out.

It fires up the base. The typical republican gets overjoyed at any sort of bigotry and hatred, they pretty much live on it. If you show you’re an awful human being, that gets republicans interested.

I think firing up the base with histrionics is merely a cheap way to inflate their numbers. Higher numbers means campaign donations pour in. It’s not so different from advertisers throwing money at shock jocks because they attract an audience in spite of their loathsome rhetoric.

On the remote chance that Trump peruses boingboing, hey Donald, I have a GREAT campaign slogan for you:

"You know what happened to all those folks who invested in my Trump Hotels and Casinos???

Well, once I’m elected, that is EXACTLY WHAT’S GONNA HAPPEN TO THE MEXICANS AND CHINESE!!!"

If he can’t run a business based on booze, gambling, and hookers, just how’s he going to manage DC?

i think it’s mining. you load up expendable people with various stockphrases and memes in order to see how they play, where they gain traction, just how much is too much, etc.

then you load up the cyborg final boss (e.g. Romney) with a carefully programmed mix and hope for a win.

That’s what I’m talking about…

Now that you mention it, rape and other violent crime statistics are down. Apparently the recent influx of immigrants are better humans than those of us who have been here for at least a generation.

I don´t regret buying that sweet potato craft book.

Does getting run through the clothes dryer for a few hours count as “dropped on the head”?
