Recycling sweaters into leggings = good idea. Execution of this idea, that requires a belt to hold them up = not too good(ie an elastic waistband or drawstring would work better, but the waist of an average sweater is meant to fit loosely, so realistically, the side seams should be taken in unless you want some leggings with tight legs and a droopy, baggy fit around the hips and bum). Plus the weird horizontal seam/gusset is not very good problem solving either, with regards to pattern drafting.
