10 killed in Dayton mass shooting

(I know, reply to myself…)

Vox did a nice write up on this point:

What will it take, do you think?

Persistence.

I gather Mitch McConnell did not like the “Moscow Mitch” nickname.

There must be some nice alliterative name he can be saddled with until the background check legislation is brought before the senate. Maybe “Mass Murder Mitch”

“But look at Chicago!” sayeth the NRA, ignoring that most guns used in Chicago crimes are purchased at gun shows in loosey goosey Indiana.

Edited for typo

I… don’t know how helpful this is:

From the dayton shooter’s ex-girlfriend. She blames it on mental illness.

Oy. Well, it’s bound to be helpful…to Trump and the Trumpkins.

This is fucking execrable, is what it is. I spent about a minute reading that filth, but that’s a minute of my life I’ll never get back. This asshole was no more mentally ill than I am, and probably a lot less, and I’ve never killed anyone despite having lived twice as long. Moreover, he has never been stigmatized a day in his life. He was a straight white cis male from the safest whitest richest part of the area. There is no excuse for what he did, and as for his motives, fuck his motives. Fuck his motives, fuck everyone like him, and fuck everyone who makes life harder for those who do struggle with mental illness and struggle to find a place in the world. That definitely includes the vacuous fucking @$#! who palmed this tragedy off on mental illness.

Not exactly an unbiased source though, is she? “I dated a guy who turned out to have mental illness” makes her come across as a more sympathetic figure and better judge of character than “I dated a monstrous, hateful mass murderer.”

But seriously, I agree with you and @Brainspore. She does seem to be attempting to make herself look more sympathetic here, which she has no need to do. No one is going to blame her for whatever he did (well, some asshole will, but it’s not her fault). I don’t know why she felt the need to make these kinds of excuses… and it’s not like they dated that long, according to the article - a few months.

And blaming this shit on mental illness is beyond the pale.

Whenever somebody says the word “shooter” on the radio, I have to figure out whether they’re talking about the most recent one I already know about, or if there’s been another one in the last few hours

Violence and gun culture is no joke. it’s serious. Satire only gets us so far.
