The Colin Baker period coincided with Michael Grade being controller of BBC1, and he was well known for hating Doctor Who.

I think I remember hearing that in one of the documentaries on the dvds. That’s the period where they had the break and they almost took the show off the air… and that song (it was the era of the supergroup charity songs). I won’t link to it, but it was pretty bad.
