What I wanted from the ending of LOST was an explanation of the Dharma Initiative and the mystical numbers. I did not care about Jack, et al who were frankly boring characters and only served as access points to the interesting parts. Yes, I get that J.J. didn’t provide an explanation because he had no idea what the answers were, but that wasn’t satisfying at all.
Night Court is another one that thought they were ending and got dragged back to life for one more season.
Sorry, but any list that doesn’t put “The Turnabout Intruder” dead last is criminally negligent.
Black Adder isn’t second. List very invalid! (I’d actually say first, but won’t quibble over it.)
I agree, sfu was my favorite.
Easy enough to do what titlemax did and find the answer for ourselves though. 8.7 overall/9.9 last episode for IMDb ratings.
Then there is the opposite: Soap. That final episode included enough cliffhangers for a whole season.
Yeah, I noticed that as well. It landed at #56. Any list without having M.A.S.H. in at LEAST the top ten finales is just wrong. One of the most beloved and - at the time - most watched series finales ever. But that’s what you get when you base your list on random internet voting results. Anyone can vote using IMDB, and fans of a series are more likely to vote, so series that aren’t as popular (Chuck? Really? Better than MASH? Ah, no… and I say that as a Chuck fan) get elevated.
Yeah I don’t know how Black Adder Goes Forth’s finale wouldn’t make it.
Surprised that the final episode of Mad Men scored so highly as I really didn’t like it. Though I wasn’t that keen on the last series at all really :-/
First, I don’t remember seeing an ending for Lost where the camera slow-zoomed out and Jack was next to a dog, so now I’m thinking I might not have seen the last episode of Lost. Oops.
Second, that had me laughing. Thank you.
O, short-sighted youths! The final episode of The Prisoner was powerful and unexpected enough to shut down the BBC switchboard and send writer-star Patrick McGoohan into hiding until the controversy blew over.
Nah. It was written as a network finale. There was the chance that it could have been the end but Fox was already shopping the show around to other networks. The jump from WB to UPN was the only network change the show had. I do recall that a little bit of wrangling had to be done to get SMG onboard with a final 7th season. Angel on the other hand got cut off at the knees.
That all sounds right. My memory ain’t what it used to be (except for the content of the show itself, which I’ve basically memorized from excessive viewing at this point). I thought I remembered one more network change- wasn’t it on Fox at one point? I might be thinking of Firefly. I also thought it was on The CW at one point, but was that just the name change that WB did? Anyway, I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time.
I did notice the list was centered on American shows, which probably explains a lot. I know “Goodbyeee” hits me hard every time I watch it.
Buffy predates the CW, but it was on both networks (WB and UPN) that merged to become CW. Fox produced the show and some affiliates probably ran it in syndication, it’s probably still running on FX. Fox ran (and cancelled) both Firefly and Dollhouse, that might be what you’re thinking of.
Ah, of course. I shall update my notes. My Buffy fandom was a little rusty. I shall go re-memorize the yellow crayon story as penance.
Like Babylon 5, which actually filmed the final episode during season 4 in case it didn’t get a fifth season?
