115-year-old woman tells us how she does it

Although the Roseto Effect seems to suggest that along with genes and luck comes community / social solidarity. Being cared for and caring for others appears to increase life expectancy considerably. Maybe someone should tell that to all those neb-liberals? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1695733/ http://www.uic.edu/classes/osci/osci590/14_2%20The%20Roseto%20Effect.htm

I have a friend who fought in the UK Navy during WWII - I think he’s 93 now, and until last year he was teaching in China. He’s still active, it’s just difficult to get visas when you’re older.

I’m surprised they let him stay so long.

OTOH, there’s evidence that eating beans can extend life expectancy.

Just saw this – made me chuckle:

This morning over breakfast S. asked me why I looked so glum.

“Because,” I said, “everything that exists is born for no reason, carries on living through weakness, and dies by accident.”

“Jesus,” S. said. “Aren’t you ever off the clock?”

I was going to post a link to a story about this guy, as a counterpoint to the idea of avoiding alcohol for longevity, but then…

Some people just keep on going until the end.

My godmother recently turned 100 and she still goes into Carlisle city centre regularly. She is complaining that the hill to the bus stop is getting difficult, but I think most people would give up trying 20-30 years earlier

also, Hetty Bower managed to keep going for 90 years of activism.
