Pretty sad commentary on our society and our history that the drafting of such a specific law was deemed necessary.

Stochastic terrorism at work. The absolutely inevitable consequence of the wholly cynical focus of our current ‘hate of the year’ on LGBTQ persons. Keep us angry and alienated at each other about culture war issues and meanwhile the plutocrats are looting the world and leaving us all to burn.
The issues are real and serious, particularly for the persons living them. They are simultaneously being used as a cudgel to motivate the magats and others to focus their rage against someone that is not the people behind the curtain. 10 years ago it was Islamaphobia because that polled well with the ignorant. 10 years from now it will be something else that has marquee billing at the hate parade. (The hate remains, just different flavors get all the attention at different times).
