2020 Election Thread (formerly: 2020 Presidential Candidates Thread) (Part 1)

He is a confusing young thing, also seems to like “second amendment inspired solutions” and “the courts shouldn’t be in charge anyway, we should” as though that means something. I took it as he had watched too many movies and not enough news, plus young, impetuous and inexperienced. I think there is hope for him, but I am not at all certain we have time for the “experience” part to work itself out.

I would add that someone should really keep a transcript of our Gathering of the Tribes, as i am pretty sure we solved all of our political and economic problems over the course of the weekend. Of course, there was a lot of bourbon, wine and beer, so it’s hard to remember the details. Pretty sure it was brilliant, though!

I’m not so sure of that. Poll after poll shows the majority of the public, not just registered Democrats, are in favor of progressive policies that moderate Dems call “impossible.”

Nothing gets out the vote like telling the majority of America that the things they want—and that most of the industrialized world have in some form or another—are impossible pipe dreams.

And that the US once had. Not only has the rest of the world solved those problems, at one time, you did, too.

That may be a problem if not dealt with. Insurrectionists have destroyed their own movements too many times in the past, we can’t afford for it to happen now.

They need to be told the difference between praxis and undirected lashing out. If I was talking to him I’d probably start with a discussion on the ideas of Peter Kropotkin and Murray Bookchin, but if they are in the Marxist-Leninist area of the left it would not work well because of long standing mutual distrust between the two movements.

That sounds vaguely anarkiddy. Maybe the Kropotkin-Bookchin discussion would work. Try directing him to the Libertarian Socialist caucus in the DSA, they might get him to be a bit more aware.

Zealous young people, who want to change the world for the better, but have a very vague idea of how the politics and the society actually work, are probably a universal thing.

It’s when they grow older, and still refuse to engage with the world as it actually is, instead of how they’d prefer it to be, that they become a problem.

Joe would be open to anything at this point.

some people just look at the system as “not working” and mindlessly vote for whoever is currently out of power, like turning the router off and on to try to get their internet back

Like Bloomberg would ever be caught dead outside of an office with a door and functioning lock.

Open offices are for the peons, whom you can proceed to berate for failing to perform after the inherent chaos and noise of an open office totally nukes their productivity.
