I assume there’s some hilarious taunts flying on Twitter, but I don’t think Biden has to worry about losing votes in America over that particular gaffe.
No true Scots voters.
One of my grandparents is from Glasgow - so I’m likely not typical in that regard. If not just.
Does Utah have open primaries?
One of my grandparents is from Scotland as well. When I read what you wrote I thought, “Oh no!” and it was only on reflection I thought, “Ah, this won’t even rank top 20 in Biden’s gaffes this month for Americans.”
But I think we both know Biden should steer clear of Scotland for a couple of generations at least.
He quoted Burns as an English poet - then said let me quote a real poet, an Irish poet.
Google says open.
I guess it’s good that at least he’s quoting poets.
(Good practice, since I think I’ll be saying that a lot now: I guess it’s good that at least he…)
Take cover.
If you value your sanity, do not follow the primaries on ABC news. With a set that looks like an unholy lovechild of Double dare and American Gladiators playing host to a rabble of suburbanites gushing about Buden and what he needs to do to win it, and ping-ponging breathlessly back and forth to collectively (circle-jerkedly?) build this bizarre narrative of Biden as this underdog who just might pull it off in the face of Bernie. Oh and who’s that next to Rahm Emmanuel? zoom out…little more…little more…Chris fucking Christie!?
Something we can all agree on:
Also:
they switched from having lots of pre-assigned polling places to centralized per-county polling stations. good for people who move a lot, or had trouble figuring which polling place was there’s, but bad if your polling station is now further away.
it was in theory supposed to help make voting easier, but of course by “pure coincidence” the centralized polling stations more readily cover areas with white voters.
they determined where to put the stations largely by where most people successfully voted last, but see above about people who had difficulties voting successfully.
it’s all about using metrics to weaponize systemic racism.
More TSU updates:
So, while California is still an open question, overall it looks like Biden has won Super Tuesday.
Suggestion of the day: Do not underestimate people’s desire for “normality”, as in a President who isn’t embroiled in a new scandal every week, whose close advisers aren’t going to jail for felony crimes, and who isn’t venting his Id on Twitter every day. Also, do realize that BoingBoing is a very leftist site, and in many ways deeply unrepresentative of even the Democratic voters, let alone America as a whole.
And, for the love of God – whoever wins the primary, get out the vote and vote blue in the general election.
I’d say that the lesson is that the power of the African American vote in Democratic primaries can’t be overemphasized. That the voter suppression incidents noted above take on more importance come the general election and that Sanders hasn’t made up for his lessor support here by increased turnout.
It’s also true that sexism and erasure of her candidacy tanked Warren. And Bloomberg couldn’t buy him love.
But most surely- James Clyburn has whatever he wants should a Biden administration come to pass. There hasn’t been a more important endorsement that I can remember in my lifetime.
