2020 Election Thread (formerly: 2020 Presidential Candidates Thread) (Part 1)

8 words:
The longer you live, the more you know.

The older ones dont necesarily like biden, they are scared of Sanders and understand that with old age people can trip up speach but are not necesarily morons.

On tripping up speech and such, I only just found out that Biden is a stutterer. Now that I know it, it explains so much about his occasional verbal fumbles and such; some are surely genuine mistakes and brain farts, but an awful lot are likely him working around words or sounds that he might get stuck on.

I previously said:

I revise to: I think Biden’s family should stay out of Scotland for ten generations.

More specifically, it’s the power of African-American preachers and party stalwarts in those states to GOTV of those willing to defer to their authority (no small number). Biden’s strength has always been connecting with those more risk-averse community elders and letting them handle
his ground game for him.

What the Super Tuesday results suggest to me is that, California aside, young Dem voters (who tend to support Sanders) aren’t coming out to vote. I hope the participation stats for Tuesday don’t bear me out, because if they do it’s a bad sign for the general election.

I love that he still lost to Biden in some states where Bloomberg literally outspent him by a factor of 1000-to-1.

Well a spot of good news

Includes a tweet from @xeni:

I’d love to see a debate between Jill Biden and Jane Sanders, especially since I’m an academic, and Jill is a community college professor and Jane an administrator (whose classic admin policies famously destroyed a college).

I hope this gets some confirmation, neither WaPo or the NYT currently have this.

This is the big benefit (to all of us) of Klobuchar and Buttigieg dropping out when they did (however much that annoyed Michael Moore).

NPR is reporting this now.

Really hoping Warren drops and endorses Sanders at this stage and doesn’t push for the cowardly centrist bullshit.

Yes - but more specifically - Gen Z voters didn’t come out to vote for Sanders. At all. The old fogey Millennials showed up a bit.

There should be an econmic study on how all his spending effected the American Samoan economy. Ane what was the effect of it ending like the snap of Thanos’s fingers.

Sadly, another opportunity to post this:

Yes, it has now popped up on the NYT and the WaPo.

This will have a huge effect on the primaries going forward.

I think Warren is still hoping to emerge on the second vote as a compromise candidate, but I don’t think that has much operational chance, since the current rules – outside of the fevered imagination of DNC conspiracy theorists – makes such a thing nearly impossible.
