2020 Election Thread (formerly: 2020 Presidential Candidates Thread) (Part 1)

I suspect some portion will vote for Trump, to teach those of us who aren’t as “enlightened” as they are a lesson… Because we deserve what we get for not voting along with their wisdom (although I very much wanted Sanders as our candidate)… although they are the ones voting for an out and out white supremacist, misogynist, ignorant “billionaire”… because “there is no lesser of two evils…” :woman_facepalming: We’re fucked by a bunch of manbabies who think they need an avenging hero to make change, when what we need is an electorate that is engaged more than every 4 years…

Misogyny - it’s what’s for dinner. Every damn day.

Same here. I supported him and Warren throughout the primaries. Unlike the BernieBros, though, we can express our disappointment in this outcome without being petulant man-child personality cultists.

I wish Bernie bros would put as much effort as they do in electoral politics in just helping their neighbors. I’ve been trying to help some ancom kids on a discord focus on direct action (and here I am the mutualist). Cause honestly, it doesn’t matter if even Sanders did get the nomination or the presidency, we need a system that doesn’t depend on figure heads. Too many people in this country are into personality cults for my tastes.

Obama signaling that he’ll push for Warren as the VP pick?

i think this is a direct result of so many people having to work multiple jobs to scrape by. long commutes and long hours even by those who are doing better financially.

people here don’t have the time, energy, or resources to organize the way we all should. i think it’s why volunteerism shoots up after retirement, and is so sparse before.

it’d be pretty amazing right now…if people could get into the same room together.

( and really people are doing some great organizing right now. maybe it’ll stick. )

I think the key thing to do, is focus on house and senate races. The Democratic establishment, as it is, will not change at all until there are simply more progressives in the body overall.

Could be that, could be Doug and Karen don’t want to be associated with the Bernie Bros.

Don’t start on the “Biden and Trump are the same” bullshit.

Sure, they will only enrich the top 1% or the top 5% or whatever, and neither will make any progress toward civil rights. That’s why Biden is pretty fucking far down my list of preferred candidates. However, only Trump is a deranged sociopath who will actively take away civil rights and actively fuck over the disadvantaged just because he can.

And God help us if there’s another natural disaster and you live in a blue state. He holds grudges like none other.

Maybe not. Every rejection of her during the 2016 primaries was not. In fact, that was the time to be rejecting her. But now, in 2020, when she’s been outside the public eye for four years? I think something’s up.

Yes, Ms Clinton is out of the public eye. That’s why she’s commenting on the election and has a miniseries about her life on Hulu right now.
And no one wants to re-litigate 2016. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t think about it.

Yup, I’m halfway expecting to see another round of Bernie fans complaining about those lazy stupid Black voters who don’t know what’s good for them and supporting Biden. The sense of entitlement is strong in some leftists.

You mean, like considering the possibility that if you can’t get enough interest in voting for you during primary season twice in a row, maybe you’re not the best candidate after all?

Regarding the “Vote for Biden, the Lesser Of Two Evils” talk:

If Biden doesn’t, he’s a fool. He needs to unify the party and Warren will pick up enough progressive voters. I don’t hold any hope for it since Biden is more informed by the Wall Street Democrats than he is by the Main Street ones.

It is mind boggling that anyone thinks this is a good idea.

The rich and powerful don’t want you to vote. The GOP has repeatedly said this part aloud in multiple places across the years in the modern era. The DNC does not want you to vote for Biden or Trump, they want you to go radio silent again. Just like they expect it every four years.

Literally the only way to make your voice heard now or in the future is to vote the lesser of two evils, especially if you are not targeted for voter suppression outside your own apathy.

I do have a tiny smidgen of hope for it, but yes, thank you for articulating that so succinctly. It clarifies just why my hope for it is so tiny. :pensive:
