The fact that they function as “spoilers” is not a law of nature, it’s a political decision, which either major party could have taken steps to fix when they’re in power, but they won’t, because they’d rather cling to their power. For these parties to make arguments about “spoilers” when they don’t have something like ranked choice voting on their platforms, and when they fight it every time it com up, is pure gaslighting.

Lately it’s mostly about the expansion of the pandemic support bills to include more people and smaller businesses, and to freeze rent and utilities so people don’t lose them. You know, all that stuff that means it doesn’t matter which disastrous party is in charge of the federal government.

FWIW, I think Bernie is the only one aggressive and energetic enough to go toe to toe with that other asshole. I’m sorry I didn’t get to see that. It would have been like the Honey Badger with a fat orange snake.
And while we’re here, I struggle to tell the difference between Biden and Pence. They’re both older conservative looking gents who say stupid things.
Maybe, but he sure took it easy on his “good friend” Joe during that last debate.

Why did he step down? Did he clearly lose the debate?
Because he always defers to the Dem establishment in the end?
I hope it was more strategic than that. At a basic level, it’s just clear he won’t beat Biden. He did just “suspend” his campaign, though, not quite dropping out.

And when it comes to the particular cruelty to undocumented immigrants, it is also a form of denial of the fact that many of these undocumented people pay taxes, they fund our public schools, and they fund the very public health system that they are being denied access to right now, through the billions of dollars of taxes that they pay. Billions more, by the way — these undocumented workers pay billions more in taxes than Facebook does, than Amazon does and than many other corporations do. And so, when it comes to contributions to our public systems, they do far more than these corporations do. And it’s extraordinarily important that they have safe access to our public health system.
And by the way, it shouldn’t just be for COVID-19 cases. Our public health system should be free at the point of service for every single person in this country. There are folks that are saying, “Oh, you’ll get paid sick leave if it’s COVID-19-related,” as we’re seeing with Amazon. They’ll take your fever. If you don’t have a test, then you will not be paid — you will not receive paid sick leave. We should have universal systems where every person can see the doctor free of charge when they need to see it, so that they can get the care that they need. That is what it means to live in an advanced and modern and humane society. And so long as we don’t do that, we have not earned the right to call ourselves one.
