I’d still feel better if it was above 50% - but this clearly isn’t 2016 redux.

I hope so. I’ll feel even better once Biden acknowledges that he can’t take victory for granted due to the existence of the Electoral College. Maybe actually campaign in some of the states Clinton ignored because she got complacent.
As I’ve said before, I think the Dems need to ignore these polls and campaign as as if it’s Biff who’s leading 50-36.
Yeah. But the campaign’s strategy of letting Trump self immolate has proven right. At this stage.
Edit: and having surrogates like the Lincoln Project attack Trump. He has a hard time going after them as never Trump Republicans & ex-Republicans. And they’re not running- he tried running against Hillary again- that didn’t work. Now he’ll try running against Obama - but that won’t work. His base just doesn’t hate Biden as much as they hate Hillary and Obama. And even they are getting tired of him.
Always assume there are people who will say they will vote for the Democrats (or a third party) but will vote Republican.
And then there’s that missing 14% of undecided idiots.
Unfortunately, the Dems don’t have an inspirational candidate who’ll bring in young voters and those who don’t usually see a reason to vote, so it’s best for them to stay hungry instead of sinking into their usual smug complacency.
Both good passive strategies, at this stage. Eventually, though, Biden will have to implement some active ones and unfortunately that’s where he has a history of screwing up.
i was the recipient of a telephone poll being conducted by dynata for some organization backing trump. did i mention it was a push poll? although a “shove” poll or a “head-on-collision” poll might describe the thing better.
there was a series of around 12 questions which all started with the stem: “which has the greatest effect on your choice of candidate . . .”. the questions themselves were all of the type "joe biden is a horrible person because X or donald trump’s behavior and temperament. for example the first question asked was: “which has the greatest effect on your choice of candidate; joe biden helping to negotiate the dangerous nuclear agreement with the terrorist sponsoring rogue nation of iran which has already been broken or donald trump’s behavior and temperament?”
following this, there were a series of questions regarding whether i strongly or somewhat approved, had no opinion, or somewhat or strongly disapproved of any number of ridiculous claims about things president trump had done, followed by a series of questions looking for my attitudes about a variety of issues. at this point the conversation became both a shove poll a n d a brick joke because then she asked me the exact same set of questions described in the previous paragraph.
finally she asked me some geographic nd demographic questions, thanked me for my time, and said goodbye. at one point during the call i asked her if it ever embarrassed her to speak lies as if they were the truth, to which she said that she wasn’t in charge of what she read to the people she talked to.
This. It’s a mistake, every damn time, to try to convert right-wing voters. It’s The Frog and the Scorpion.
It’s still worth trying, but efforts should be focused on people who are a poor fit for right wing politics. There is little point in putting a lot of effort into converting an old white supremacist or billionaire, for example.
Those surveys are done by firms hired by the various campaigns, so yes, the person calling has no control over what scripts they read for the day. But I sympathize-- I’ve heard some whoppers from phone survey folks myself. I always try to warn them-- I’ll give you my opinions, if you’re sure you really want to hear them… But I worked in retail, so I’ve got perhaps more sympathy for these phone survey jobs than I should have, so I try not to give them a hard time. (Except over the inevitable “Would you consider yourself a liberal or a conservative?” question. Then I’m forced to point out that it’s a flawed query, that should really be stated, “Are you leftist, liberal, or conservative?” and they always tell me how they have to ask what they’re given. >shrug< )
(It’s even more fun when you get a person who’s willing to contribute their own opinions on whoever or whatever they’re calling about. I’ve had a couple of delightful conversations with survey people… but usually it’s just questions and answers.)
Not bad.
That’s a really good one. Biden’s absolutely correct, his message here is clear and simple, and it will stick in Trump’s craw quite nicely.
Heard an interview with AG Barr this morning on NPR where he repeated this particular conspiracy theory. When pressed for evidence, he admitted that there was none “but it makes sense that they would.”
It’s part the the End Times eschatology. Same reason they embrace Israel so tightly. So all the Jews will go back there and die before the second coming. Those who buy this have already accepted that this “persecution of the saints” will occur, they just aren’t certain when. Trump gives them a date certain, and there are lots who will buy into that wholeheartedly.
Funny, if that was true, then Russian-printed ballots would decide elections in Oregon for decades now, and the state would be solid red…
ETA: Actually, given how often GOP talking points are projection, states that have all or large numbers of mail-in ballots should probably be extra careful about Russian-printed ballots this autumn…
He’s gonna have to come up with that money himself, then. I’m sure he’s good for it, right? I mean, he calls himself a “billionaire” and claimed his net worth was $4.5B when he wanted to buy the football team, so he should be able to drop $2.5B on a wall. I mean, it’s obviously really important to him. He talks about it all the time.
Wait, Donny doesn’t have $2.5B? How much does he have? That little?
