Just as Chuck Schumer lets his brand be diluted by Ann’s off-color comedy, or Joe Kennedy II gets to control RFK Jr.'s wackiness. The best-known member of an extensive family doesn’t own the name.
My issue with the quoted tweet is that without digging into the details of the fundraiser it is really easy to read it and assume that Nancy is involved. Certainly anyone already disposed to believe it can’t be blamed for assuming this. I hope it is simply sloppy on the tweeter’s part, and not intentionally misleading.
Oh, I’m sure she had absolutely nothing to do with it. Laurence and Alexis are, after all, the best-known Pelosis in the country and in Dem politics, which is why their names are prominent on the invitation. Nancy doesn’t figure into this fundraiser at all, being a minor factor in Dem establishment politics. You’ve got me convinced!
It is hardly surprising that people in Nancy’s husband’s extended family are interested in politics. Are you assuming that when Nancy married into the family control over their public face was given to her in the dowry, or are you assuming that she handed over control of her opinions to her husband and his nephew?
No, I’m assuming she became the most prominent and influential member of the family bearing that name at some point after she took it upon marriage. It’s not rocket science, as much as you want to pretend I’m claiming it is.
Look, if you’re hell-bent on believing that Dem establishment politician Nancy Pelosi has no preference for Dem establishment politician Biden over the other candidates (and especially over the progressive ones) and that she has little influence over her Dem establishment family members when it comes to being part of the Dem establishment family and political group that calls itself TeamPelosi, I’m not going to try further to convince you otherwise.
I’m sure Pelosi does have a preference, though I’m not sure it is for Biden. I’m just saying that the (1) political activities of her relatives are not an obvious indicator of her preference, and that (2) the post above was really misleading, though is likely to just reinforce the beliefs of those who already want to believe in the narrative of a corrupt Democratic political establishment being run out of Pelosi’s lair.
I wonder what happens in that not-improbable scenario where Uncle Joe flames out by fulfilling Obama’s worst expectations early in 2020. The other neoliberal-lite establishment candidates aren’t breaking two figures in support, and Biden’s support would be divied up amongst them to little effect (as much as the NYT and some in the Dem establishment punditocracy want to make Castro or Booker happen, they’re not gonna happen). The only real contender who comes closest to the political centre is Harris, but she’s still too progressive (and often too female or too dark-skinned or too young) for a lot of Biden’s supporters.
My sense is that the DNC establishment and its allies in the media-industrial complex understand all that and are going to have to go to increasingly ridiculous lengths to prop up Biden until they can get to the convention and crown the heir apparent. Whether they’ll make it all the way, I’m not sure, and apparently Obama has his doubts as well.
Conservatives stealing a (decidedly NOT conservative) British furry artist’s work to “dunk” on Beto for his AR-15 ban is probably the stupidest thing I’ve seen in, well, at least the last 48 hours or so…
This is SOP with other minor parties, like the Greens and the Libertarians and the Prohibition Party. The GOP falling to these ranks leaves the Democratic Party as the only actually democratic party in the country.
Hate to say it but if any candidate is unwilling to go after Biden openly because they’re afraid of being called an ageist, the superpacs will be more than willing to fill in that void and cross over that line.
I would have never guessed given his history as a NRA shill.
ETA I guess he’s walked back on some of his previous interviews saying his words were misused and taken out of context. As if more reasons were needed not to trust anything the NRA does.
