I understand his pro-gun stance. It’s not uncommon. I think, in general, how the NRA perpetuates racism is less well understood among gun enthusiasts in the black community.
IF the CDC could gather, analyze, and report the kind of detailed data on firearms violence that they do on cancer and heart disease, I wouldn’t be surprised if their recommendations would say that AR-type weapons and handguns should be denied to white men, especially with a history of domestic violence or violence against women. Quite a big chunk of that cohort includes police…
She’s been killing it the past couple of days.
So, I read this News for Yahoos and didn’t see much of an answer to “how Biden could lose the black vote” other than the rather vacuous conclusion,
In other words, if Biden’s rivals want to change black voters’ minds in the months ahead, they need to do more than just knock him off his stride. They have to give black Democrats an alternative — someone else to believe in.
Who’s that going to be?
This is a strong argument for why Joe would make an excellent Vice President.
Nolan is correct over all. What he’s missing is that “normal” worked very well for affluent white cis-het male Boomers with stable careers, who would prefer we all keep deferring to their authority, thenkyewverymuch.
There are new realities we have to deal with: climate change, increasing inequality, the return of fascism to mainstream politics. A return to Biden’s “normal” won’t help at best and will exacerbate the problems at worst.
True. Perhaps to a President who was a Civil Rights activist back in 1962, when Uncle Joe was playing tough-guy with Corn Pop; perhaps to a President who comes out every day with proposals that will help stop the multi-generational poverty the plagues the African-American community; or maybe to a younger President who has some life experience as a woman of colour.
Not just from 1962. He was an excellent Veep for someone who was younger than that. The argument that he alone can insure the black vote is specious. Many Dem candidiates can. What he can bring is the older white guy vote - and he may be the only one who can reliably do this. But grabbing a specific segment of the vote is usually why you choose a Veep.
This isn’t to deny that he has strong support among lgbt folks for his work on pushing marraige equality and transgender enfranchisement when the Obama Admin was releuctant to go all in on those issues. He does - and he desrves credit for this an other things when looked at as a man in full. But that they will also see many others who now have those same views and committments. He’d make an excellent addition to the next admin in some some role.
Finger on the pulse, this guy.
15 minutes later:
Twitter: Andrew Yang announces that he is ending his bid for president. Says he underestimated the p0rn voter base./s
But he’s not a conservative at heart! /s
I wish Bernie and warren would just tag team this one and kick biden’s Out of the top spot. All the sane people I know are leaning to one or the other. It’s like it’s just a little skirmish over who would top the bill because someone has to top the bill.
I did see warren beating Biden in some Iowa polls. And considering how the Iowa caucuses work, Bernie supporters could jump over to her team (more likely than them jumping to Biden) that might give her a huge boost and a running start in the primaries.
Just thinking out loud here. It bugs me that Biden still seems to top polls and I’m looking for a way out of this quagmire.
Another day, another desperate attempt by the conservative blogosphere
Andrew Yang is an ass of the highest order. I can’t help but think the only people voting for him in polls are poison pill rightwingers, who want him to discredit and distract Democrats and potentially peel off Yang on into an arrogant, egotistical third party run that would damage Democratic hopes.
Yeah, he sounds like the kind of guy who is itching to censor media & tech
I like Bernie a lot but I’m leaning Warren lately. (I don’t mean this as a knock on Bernie. I don’t know what schedule problem he may have had, but I appreciate warren for her appearance) https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/sep/21/angelica-ross-lgbtq-presidential-forum-bernie-sanders
