2020 Election Thread (formerly: 2020 Presidential Candidates Thread) (Part 1)

I want them to run against each other.

Those two chucklefucks going at it against each other is just about the only way to make this administration even more of a fecal exhibition than it already is.

If he has to drop out due to health reasons, I hope he’ll do the right thing and send his cash and supporters to Warren.

He really has had an amazingly positive impact on the Dems over the past few years, so as much as I still would love to see him as POTUS he could retire now with no shame that he didn’t do enough.

Actually how does that actually work? If a candidate drops out and has a lot of extra cash is there a law about what they have to do with it? There are campaign contribution limits… but could it all dump into the general DNC pot or something?

That’s a good question. I’m really not sure. What he can do is ask people who were donating to him to send their money to her campaign in the future.

No really, how is Jacob Wohl not in prison after all of this crap?

At this point, are we sure Wohl isn’t actually Sacha Baron Cohen? I mean, really sure?

It is still subject to FEC guidelines. Essentially, they can transfer it to themselves for other political offices, they can use it to defray permitted expenses of winding down their campaign, and they can donate it to party committees or state and local candidates, as spelled out in this clause of FEC regulations.

I believe there are some conceptual problems with shifting it to another candidate in the same federal race, for example if an individual donates to the max to the campaigns for X and Y, then all the funds get shifted to Y, then that individual has now donated over the limit to Y.

Normally, of course, candidates are in the red by the end of their campaign.

Well, there’s an active warrant out for his arrest. I think I know where they can find him!

Wow, I can barely see to type right now. The US today is NOT the US I was born in. Sanders is no more “socialist” than the US soldiers who fought along side their allies to free Europe from Nazis.

Did this happen? Is this a joke (i.e. by someone who isn’t Wohl nor Burkman)? Here’s a Post article about the front yard (no, really) press conference they had two days prior:

“This is rapidly reaching diminishing returns,” said Daily Beast reporter Will Sommer, who has religiously covered the pair’s fumbles. “Each time I expect, you know, maybe this time they’ll have it. But, of course I should know better by now.

So, did it (i.e. the 10/3 presser about Warren) not happen, or did the Post decide Thursday wasn’t a slow news day and sent their resources elsewhere? (I can’t find this in today’s paper.)

EDIT:
Well it was good enough (i.e. slow news day) for CNBC.

I’m not crying, you’re crying! #sniff

And you’re exactly right. This is what my parents fought for, as union teachers. The right to be paid fairly for an important and difficult job. They went to union meetings, they walked the picket lines, heck, I walked with them when I wasn’t in school because there was no affordable day care. They sacrificed and tightened their belts when it was time to push back at the greedy fucks who wouldn’t fund public schools.

I remember the sound track of 70’s and 80’s music when I would ride all over the state with my dad when he was looking for a job that paid just a little more than minimum wage to a guy with a Masters degree. To do a job he loved. To inspire kids who maybe weren’t at the top of the class, but needed to know how our system of government worked; how our history got us to where we are.

The US would be a better place right now if there were more of him; if he had reached more students to understand and get involved.

Shit. I need to go hug my dad. And I think I have to go donate to the Sanders campaign.

…regrettably.

He’s basically an extremely moderate SocDem. But given that the rest of the field are well to the right of that, he’s still the only viable option available.
