My god, what a horrifying read. And it doesn’t help that in some of the pictures I can’t differentiate between “counter protestors” and police.
“According to available records, Rudloff has faced 19 department investigations in more than two decades of service. Five ended in disciplinary action, ranging from three incidences of counseling to a suspension for a 1999 use-of-force complaint.”
I really wonder how things would change if we simply removed the police union’s protection of these people, and they were held accountable for their actions. What if we got this guy on his first offense, instead of his 19th? What happens if he murders someone on his 20th?
It is time to investigate police unions as a criminal organizations that exist to obstruct justice and allow serial criminals to function with impunity.
Yes!
Some of them - but generally - who’s assaulting people and who is armed with guns helps.
Pretty sure both police and “counter protestors” are armed with guns and assaulting people.
The problem is the very inequity of the law and justice system. US cops really are legalized gangs. The law must be changed to depower police unions and remove QI. That’s not all that has to change, but they’re necessary steps.
Is it terrible that I initially read that as “deflower police unions?” Fuck them all, absolutely, but… yuck.
Unfuck the police?
It was bound to happen. Organizers are at risk if anyone at a protest steps out of line. This law was passed for this very reason.
it’s not like this is all some kind of big misunderstanding
Portland police seem to have temporarily given up on declaring a riot and arresting protesters after the DA dropped charges from the weekend arrests and said they would continue to do so for all nonviolent charges.
That was last night. We will see how it goes tonight.
that’s some good news right there. it’s pretty amazing that portlanders ( portlandites? ) are still going strong, night after night.
This is absolutely ridiculous.
And the comments are what I’d expect for an AOL-linked story.
By the way, SLO, it’s tempered glass:
“…shattering the rear window and causing pieces of glass shards to fall on a four-year-old child in the backseat.”
But “shards” sounds so much more threatening!
Right? I shart myself just from seeing that word!
Well, that didn’t last long. Police labeled last night’s downtown protest a riot by 11:30 (which is early, compared to before) and were using tear gas by midnight, against court orders.
