Toppling a Pushkin statue?
Russian literati say: ā€œNo! Ukrainians are our brothers! How can they push kin?ā€

(With sincere apologies at a time of such serious events.)

The fascist ā€œself-cleansingā€ of Russia proceedsā€¦

We in the West should remember that some of our politicians see the situation Putin has created as something to be emulated.

From what i have read, the exposure they received should not be sufficient to cause acute radiation poisoning, but the incidence of cancer in these guys over the next few decades has got to go through the roof. These poor kids have no idea what has been done to them, and the guys who ordered them to do it are heartless bastards.

Yes, and the Stasi as a model for ā€œinternal policing.ā€ Iā€™ve said before, fascists only have one playbook.

Itā€™s been said elsewhere in this thread as well, butā€¦. Iā€™m super glad all the heroic efforts are coming from every corner to assist Ukrainian refugees. It sure does draw stark contrast though. There have been countless wars and other acts of extreme displacement all over Africa, Central America, and elsewhere in the last 20 years. Where were the cruise ships for them?

Interesting parallels between Blair and Schroeder. They really went for the New Labour/charismatic leader of the right wing of a centre left party in the 2000s, didnā€™t they?

The stupid, it irradiates.

Well, obviously, they werenā€™t all invaded by Putin.

(That IS the difference, isnā€™t it?) /s

So, an update on my potential lodgerā€¦who is no longer a potential lodger.

My UkraineTakeShelter post had a heading of TIJUANA. While we were discussing her situation if she came via Mexico, I often spoke of what living in TIJUANA is like. I sent an image of my driverā€™s license so she would know who I am, and she fixated on the fact that my driverā€™s license address is in San Diego.
So, this whole time she has been thinking San Diego. And she believes I lured her here for the LOLs.

As I tried to assure her I would try to find her some alternative shelter in the USA for a month, she started to show her true colors, calling Tijuana the ā€œass end of the worldā€ and that she would never stay in an apartment here and no Ukrainian would because they would be killed.

A fellow user here at BB has tried to provide some legal avenues to seeking refuge in the USA, but she is quite certain that social media platforms that Ukrainians are using are offering sound advice despite evidence to the contrary. It appears many Ukrainians think we are urging caution about Mexico/USA ā€œhard borderā€ policies in order to sow panic among the refugees.

So, there we go. She has broken off contact, and is stuck in a hotel in Tijuana (I think). And likely bad-mouthing the people who are actually trying to help on social media. :man_shrugging:

On the other hand, I have been contacted by another person asking about the situation, but this person actually understands what I am offering ā€“ temporary shelter IN TIJUANA for refugees who cannot cross the border immediately.

I guess if I had any advice for folks wanting to offer help to Ukrainian refugees, make sure they are fully comprehending the things you say, and make sure they understand that the USA is not an easy destination where money grows on trees.

Citizens are denouncing one another

Stalin would be proudā€¦

Yet some would have us believe they are all nth level masters of strategy, well beyond the understanding of mere mortals like usā€¦

I think we knowā€¦

The image in the following tweet shows one of the main obstacles to Russia being able to rearm or repair, and replace her losses even with all the money coming from gas and oil sales. Much of her recent more-advanced weaponry production relies on parts from countries that have sanctioned her. They even had to close their Uralvagonzavod tank production line for lack of parts.

In addition, the Russian retreat from the north of Ukraine has meant that they had to abandon materiel that they could have repaired otherwise. Materiel that now the Ukrainians can fix and use against the Russian invaders, as they can do with their own damaged materiel.

Time is on Ukrainiaā€™s side. The Russians better agree to Ukrainiaā€™s ceasefire conditions now or they would have to watch how they get harsher and harsher the longer they wait.
