Now South Africans are defending their loyalty to another autocrat — Russian President Vladimir Putin — and sitting out the global outcry over his invasion of Ukraine.

At the United Nations on Wednesday, South Africa was among 24 African countries that declined to join the resounding vote denouncing Russian aggression: 16 African countries abstained, seven didn’t vote at all and one — Eritrea — voted against it, keeping company only with Russia, Belarus, Syria and North Korea.

All these Trumpists keep whining about how Biden and even Zelensky need to be “tough” in the face of Putin but keep forgetting that Trump was such a chickenshit that he had giant reinforced barriers erected around the (already quite well protected) White House in preparation for an election.

Lincoln didn’t even erect barriers around the White House and when he was President there was an entire hostile army within walking distance of D.C.

It’s almost like he had some undisclosed Russian connection…

To continue the saga: the Ukrainian AN12 transport plane is actually heading North now, away from Ukraine, escorted by an American Osprey and a Spanish A400M.

Whatever they are picking up or delivering, it must be of great value and bulk.

ETA:

The Americans and Spanish have long since peeled off and the AN12 is currently over the Baltic Sea, seemingly heading towards Estonia or Finland. What is fascinating is that a Ukrainian AN124 (a humongous cargo plane) has just taken off in Rzeszow and is following exactly in the earlier plane’s wake.

I find the K35R interesting. Currently three in the region. Flight pattern interpretation, anyone?

Oh, and the Globalhawk, of course.

And that Hercules coming from Ramstein. That might or might not be the promised NVA rockets…

Re drones, I read yesterday that “an unknown source” had sent more Turkish drones to Ukraine.

Not complaining, mind you… but what does that even mean. Sounded like a line from a dark-comedy satire on war.

They’ve been circling for days. Always at least one American or British tanker in the air. My best guess is that they’re a precautionary measure.

Erdogan not wanting to anger Putin any more than necessary? Who else would have Bayraktars just lying around?

From the birth certificate crap, to demands that POTUS visit the border with Mexico…this bullying tactic never ends. I’m waiting for someone to clap back telling them off, because no one should have to show their papers or dance to their tune on command.

Yep, this week they’re demanding that the public should get a chance to look through Ketanji Brown Jackson’s LSAT test answers.

And as Ukrainian border guards stop Black Africans from exiting Ukraine. The absurdity is stunning.

I was commenting on the cogency of the statement. I mean…who could it fool?

Saving face can be important in diplomacy, even if everyone involved knows you’re being lied to

Answers, or scores?

The rule should be that the only ones who get to see them are those who also asked for the scores of Brett Kavanagh and Amy Coney Barrett.

Well the Zaporozhian Cossacks had more time to think about it and plan a response than the soldiers on Snake Island. They did very well for a spur of the moment insult.

I see skilled diplomacy as being able to not slip on a banana peel that everyone (and the walker) sees… and if the diplomat slips, that’s when all get to see his/her clown face.

I think we should get to see Joe Shapiro’s SAT results.

This is an interesting Twitter thread…

You know how it goes; if they actually were provided with her scores they’d just start demanding to see the “long form” version of her LSAT results. And if they couldn’t find anything there they’d start calling her grade school report cards into question until they uncovered a report of her biting another child in preschool or something.
