So, when do they start using the real stuff?
Ukraine denies attack on prison that reportedly killed 40 POW
Ukraine’s military has just denied carrying out the attack on a prison in separatist-held territory that Russia’s defence ministry said killed 40 Ukrainian prisoners of war on Friday, and blamed it on Russian forces.
The general staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a statement:
The armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out targeted artillery shelling of a correctional institution in the settlement of Olenivka, Donetsk oblast, where Ukrainian prisoners were also held.
In this way, the Russian occupiers pursued their criminal goals - to accuse Ukraine of committing ‘war crimes’, as well as to hide the torture of prisoners and executions […].
Russia has denied involvement in war crimes in what it calls its “special military operation” to protect Russian speakers and root out dangerous nationalists.
Ukraine says Moscow is waging an unprovoked war of conquest.
Jenkins should read the recent Yale paper showing that the sanctions are working and are strangling the Russian economy and industry to death.
Just reposting your link to have some context:

This is why I like teasing my colleagues in Econ about the Dismal Science.
Without actually RTFA (this is the internet after all), according to those introductory blurbs it looks like the sanctions-arent-working articles are arguing that because the rest of the world is being negatively affected it means sanctions aren’t working… which is a look-at-the-monkey argument, the question is are sanctions working against Russia.
This editorial suggests an international oil buyers’ cartel that would cap the price of Russian oil. It involves herding cats like India and China but appealing to their short-term desire for a bargain might be workable.
China and India are already buying Russian oil at a big discount. From the Foreign Policy article written by the authors of the Yale study @anon33932455 mentioned:
Russian oil exports now also reflect Putin’s diminished economic and geopolitical clout. Recognizing that Russia has nowhere else to turn, and mindful that they have more purchasing options than Russia has buyers, China and India are driving an unprecedented approximately $35 discount on Russian Urals oil purchases, even though the historical spread has never ranged beyond $5—not even during the 2014 Crimean crisis—and at times Russian oil has actually sold at a premium to Brent and WTI oil. Furthermore, it takes Russian oil tankers an average of 35 days to reach East Asia, versus two to seven days to reach Europe, which is why historically only 39 percent of Russian oil has gone to Asia versus the 53 percent destined for Europe.
Thread:
“Winter is Coming”…Russians might be promoting it, but there’s no doubt the artistic director knew exactly what they were doing.
But if it works to convince all those “I’d rather live in Russia than in the U.S. with Biden” MAGA sad sacks to emigrate, then I’m willing to call it the greatest PR ad ever created.
Germany is but one of several European nations that has opted for the U.S.-made F-35 to replenish its fighter jet fleets. Most recently, Greece has sent an official letter of request to procure 20 F-35As by 2028, while the Czech Republic wants the aircraft to replace its aging fleet of Saab JAS 39 Gripens.
Meanwhile, Finland plans to spend $10 billion to buy 64 F-35 aircraft to replace its F-18 Hornets, with initial deliveries to start in 2026. Switzerland also selected the joint strike fighter in 2021, committing to 36 aircraft that will replace its own Hornet fleet.
Poland will receive 32 F-35A aircraft beginning in 2024, after a letter of agreement was signed between Warsaw and Washington in January 2020. Belgium also selected the F-35 in 2018, and will receive 34 aircraft, per Lockheed Martin.
No recession for Lockheed.
I dare say no recession for any US defense contractors. War is good for business.
Fantasizing how to execute captives at one’s mercy is a bad look for a country that wants to be considered a world power. Posting such garbage does reinforce the fact that Russia is on the wrong side of history here.
They are also trying to justify murdering the very same prisoners that they claim were killed by the enemy.
“We didn’t do it, and they deserved it.”
