2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 2)

In a spirit of socialist fraternity and anti-imperialist solidarity, China invaded Vietnam in 1979.

The Sino-Vietnamese War (also known by other names) was a border war fought between China and Vietnam in early 1979. China launched an offensive in response to Vietnam’s actions against the Khmer Rouge in 1978, which ended the rule of the Chinese-backed Khmer Rouge. Both China and Vietnam claimed victory in the last of the Indochina Wars.

Chinese forces invaded northern Vietnam and captured several cities near the border. On 6 March 1979, China declared that the gate to Hanoi was open and that their punitive mission had been achieved. Chinese troops then withdrew from Vietnam. As Vietnamese troops remained in Cambodia until 1989, China was unsuccessful in its goal of dissuading Vietnam from involvement in Cambodia. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Sino-Vietnamese border was finalized. Although unable to deter Vietnam from ousting Pol Pot from Cambodia, China demonstrated that its Cold War communist adversary, the Soviet Union, was unable to protect its Vietnamese ally.[19]

When you get a turbine trip and have to vent a Gigawatt of hot, high pressure steam, it tends to wake up everyone in the neighbourhood. I’ve been beside that, and it’s a mighty display. Add the emergency klaxons and it might give the troops there some second thoughts. We’ve had 5 REM/hr in the parking lot of a :canada: nuclear plant, which is also enough to get the attention of people who don’t need to be there…

just sayin’…

Roger is something of a tankie: anti-imperialism, but blind to non-Western imperialism. The name originating from the old socialists who defended the Warsaw Pact using tanks against their own citizens to quell protests.

If the Ukrainian staff at the plant manufactured a safety incident, the Russians would arrest them all and replace them with Russian personnel.

No doubt… it would be a gamble. The question at this point may be whether to wait for the big incident, something that destroys containment, or settle for something smaller and controlled.

I’m guessing that a vote to join Russia will save the world, a vote to remain Ukrainian will doom it.

That is a bluff that needs to be called. Rostov is downwind and not that far, as are many allied states. Everyone else will treat this as a nuclear attack.

Anyone wanna bet the attack on the plant on the weekend was the Russians accidently setting off their own munitions while setting up these mines?

Force? They do have the option of giving them back! Many of them are leased.
