🖕 🍊 🤡 A Continuing Round-Up of Trumpian Events 🖕 🍊 🤡

The history of this is odd enough, I could be convinced that it’s as simple as Trump noticing (or being told) that making that gesture drives Liberals nuts (no further questions asked on his end).

IMO whether it started as a troll or not, it’s done by white supremacists while espousing white supremacists beliefs frequently enough that “irony poisoning” has set in. It’s now just actually the thing everyone on the right has been pretending it is (that is, a manifest symbol of white supremacist ideology) for the sake of making people mad online for lulz.

Even if you make a Nazi salute “ironically”, you’re still making a Nazi salute.

Why do I feel like what he really wants is working encryption, but for Republicans?

Meuller’s testimony is being streamed live at the moment of posting this

The introductions from the Democratic chair and the Republican co-chair were startlingly different.
Democrats: Mueller’s a decorated vet, former FBI head, and has a lifetime of public service. The investigation resulted in convictions of many of Trump’s associates and employees. It concluded that the Russians interfered, that the president committed crimes, and that it’s our job to get all the facts to take the next step. Those are the facts.
Republicans: The report showed that the president is totally innocent and that this committee is biased against him, and also that this is just a distraction from the crisis at the border and the threat from immigrants. THOSE are the facts and nothing we hear today will change them.

Uh… facts?

Out in our machine shop the CNC guy is watching a conservative feed of Mueller’s testimony. I went back there to request a modification and heard “…welcome to No Obstruction, No Collusion Day. It’s going to be really interesting to see how this hearing backfires on the Democrats.”

I decided I’d wait until tomorrow to get my mods done. I just can’t even.

I really wonder about these intentional security backdoors. Some of the stuff that hackers do to find real security holes seem almost like magic to me (I’m a mathematician so hardware seems like magic to me). But what if you knew that there was a backdoor that a human being had intentionally put in the algorithm. It’s an entirely different problem to solve. I’d be really interested in how you attack that problem.

There is a few approaches:

  1. You read up on documentation to figure out how it is implemented and search for flaws in how it is designed.
  2. You dig through the system, reverse engineering it to look for flaws in how it is implemented.
  3. You hammer the system, putting it under stress until it does something unexpected. Then you figure out how to use the unexpected behavior.
  4. You scam the admins.

That was some Grade A ass licking on his part

We will continue along the path we already were on.

When Mueller says “Does not exonerate” Fox and Friends will just cut that part out and continue to insist on “Total Exoneration”.

I guess when there is an intentional backdoor there is at least one tactic that is not usually available, which is bribing or blackmailing the creators of the algorithm or anyone who works at an organization that might use the backdoor, and that gets you a skeleton key to everything instead of access to one system.

You nailed it.

But also having a backdoor raises the probability of the first two. If not the third.

I tried to watch the testimony, but the blatant partisanship of each GOP member using their time to either yell at Democrats, accuse Democrats of working with Russians, lick Trump’s butt a lot, or insist to Mueller’s face that his report found the opposite of what it actually found was just a waste of time. And, frankly, Mueller almost desperately doesn’t want to be sitting there and clearly has zero interest in helping to clarify his report in any way; I’d say 50% of his answers were just “read my report”.

He should decide to be a goddamn hero today and just spill the beans.

Step up man.

The very first thing he did was to caveat his appearance by saying “I was hired to be a prosecutor, and so I will not be talking about anything that might affect any ongoing prosecution.”
