šŸ–• šŸŠ šŸ¤” A Continuing Round-Up of Trumpian Events šŸ–• šŸŠ šŸ¤”

Iā€™ve been happy to see that the majority of the headlines about the Portland rallies referred to the counter-protests as ā€œanti-fascistā€, rather than ā€œAntifaā€. I think a lot of people are realizing that that label is too divisive and too loaded, while simply saying ā€œyeah, the people opposing the Proud Boys are protesting fascismā€ is truthful and far more honest.

Donald Trump and the Republican Party hate America: Itā€™s time to say it

Yeah, sure, why not, since theyā€™ve been saying that about Dems since like, forever?

Anyway, they love ā€œAmerica,ā€ their lily-white, 1950s dream of something it never was. What they hate is the countryā€™s diverse realities.

From the link:

President Donald Trump, his enablers in Congress and his most devoted supporters are anti-American and soft on terrorism.

Now thereā€™s a good bludgeon. I wish more Dems than AOC would call out Repubs with it.

something is off here and I dont mean ivankas tweet (that was just random BS); I have to say; his tweet doesnt make much sense either. ā€œtheyā€?!? and max wasnt ā€œspoiledā€, he was just mad at his mom for an hour or so and finaly put himself together, because he realises he loves her after all and wants to be loved back. we all went through that, right? thats one of the reasons why we love the book, right? at least I do. hes just a kid. not ā€œspoiledā€, but wild. he wears his wolf-costume. but hed mastered his angry ā€œwild thingsā€ inside as the king of his self. and leaves them. no ā€œassholeā€, just a normal 8 y/o something with normal emotions.

I dont know any of the films (no, didnt saw that spike jonze flick), but he talks about the book, right? this book:

his tweet makes me kinda mad. what exactly is its point? seriously, I dont get it.

fucking strange times. shitty timeline, this.

ā€œPhotos from a fundraising event for a Democratic state senator in Illinois surfaced over the weekend showing a mock assassination of President Trump, prompting apologies and condemnation.ā€ -WashExaminer

Oopsies!

Sheesh, so stupid. Always sucks when the left hands over ammunition (so to speak) like that to the rightwing noise machine.

One thing I remember hearing from a European was that the Trump presidency isnā€™t really revealed anything about America to other countries, itā€™s more that it cemented it. People around the world already felt like that ā€œleader of the free worldā€ stuff was bullshit, but didnā€™t feel the need to make a fuss about it, mostly. Now instead of having a feeling that itā€™s bullshit they know that itā€™s bullshit, and they are done with it. The point of ā€œthe straw that broke the camelā€™s backā€ is that the damage you do with that final insult is irreparable.

Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Antifa party?

Max was sent to bed without his dinner, which seems - um - antiquated but which is also the opposite of spoiled. That is, Max was punished for doing something wrong. (And the parents do end up feeding their child, thankfully)

so, am I here just lost in translation? is he writing about the parents?!? are the parents the assholes? ā€¦so Ivanka is the spoiled child which learns what an asshole her parents are? or the wild things?!?

kinda makes senseā€¦still weird and off.

not any random pseudo-pop-reference-BS from the offspring of the orange menace must be commented on with an even weirder, hardly sense-making tweet just to point out her blunt dullness.

In the version I read as a kid, Max did seem like a brat, TBH.

You had the English language one, not one translated to German?

(Iā€™m American, but I donā€™t just assume that everyone else must automatically read and speak English because I do.)

jaja, of course in german; but the translation reads the same meaning as the english one. read it again just an hour ago as you can imagine (wow, a discussion about the meaning of one of the greatest child-books ever written and illustrated, initiated by a bad tweet :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:).

I find the meaning of the book pretty ineffable, outside of the length of the book complete with illustrations. If this poem of childhood could have been any shorter it would have been, but every word is necessary. Although, being German, you guys probably have one word for that feel  but yeah ā€œSpoiled Brat gets his come-uppanceā€ was a particularly shitty read, and a stretch to take a shot at a relatively easy target.
