Traditional. I like it.
In British news (because Trumpism doesnāt stop at the US border), Carl of Swindon (AKA Sargon of Akkad) has caused an exodus away from Ukip because of his antisemitic comments.
The bad news it that it leaves the Brexit party as the only choice for the less racist Brexiters. I apologise to all Europeans for the ongoing shit show.
Good luck distinguishing the data points on that spectrum of almost singular hue.
I rewrote that bit several times because of that.
It wasnāt already fully shredded by Bush v. Gore ?
Also a horrible name for a folksinging revival pub band.
āShred Its Credibilityā, however, would be a perfectly good name for a political grindcore band. S.I.C.!
By the original H&S definition of āmillennials,ā they donāt overlap with the Carter administration. Reagan was president already in 1982.
Bizarrely, though, Carter is still alive, and eligible to serve another term
True, but the current definitions are all over the place, to the extent that someone tried to create a new intermediate generation called xennials to fix it
I think by whatever definition, Carter is well before the millennials. Iām a gen xer and donāt remember carter, though I was alive for most of his presidency. I remember almost all of the Reagan years, as well as the end of the Cold War.
To my mind (as a historian of the late 20th century) the most sensible definition for generations for me is really shared cultural/social memories (following along with the notion that generations are a social construct that are culturally shaped). Iād argue that Gen Xers are the last generation to remember living through the Cold War (CW 2), that saw the disillusion of the liberal consensus, and the last generation to not have extensive engagement with computers early on. Also the generation who grew up with certain shared cultural experiences, musically hip hop and punk and having known and had access to video games (either in an arcade or on a console). Another would be the rise of fandom culture and the proliferation of franchises. Naturally, YMMV for specific individuals, as well as from country to country (though I suspect your experiences as a Brit, since we share a language and more easily share culture as national allies, are more similar to Americanās experiences culturally). Thatās my argument anywaysā¦ take it or leave it, of courseā¦
Anywayā¦ BRB, got to go dance in a gas station to an 80s songā¦
He should run! Can you imagine the discussions around his age!!!
Brace yourself for long explanations of how this wasnāt terrorism.
But his peanut farm! Think of the emoluments!
Fucking Christ.
Funny, I doubt Trump has ever been present for the birth of any of his children.
Iām afraid Iāll have to take issue with this point, madam.
You mean the treaty that the US signed in 2013 but have not ratified to make it law yet?
Long discussion? 1) Heās not Muslim. 2) Heās white. QED, it canāt be terrorism. (/s, if necessary)
Hereās a must-read (IMHO) follow-up to Trumpās fuckwittedness, which tells the real story:
Iāve had my own experience with ICU staff, and let me tell you, they were angels. They were incredibly kind, gave me hugs, kept after me to take care of myself too, as well as treating my father like gold. (That was surgical ICU and not neo-natal, but Iām honestly in awe of any nursing staff that gives patients and families such comfort in such an awful time.) Itās an outrage that the Orange Bastard is trying to demonize such wonderful, loving people.
One more thing:
Iām not familiar with her because she didnāt run in my district, but she sounds like one to watch, and vote for.
Yāknow, I have been avoiding this thread mostly because it is so depressing and I have had a lot of really intense stuff happening to me these past two years.
However, and at the risk of depressing a lot of people here:
