We could imagine a despot who inspires such personal loyalty from those kinds of people that they would support him over the Constitution, but I don’t see the draft-dodging clown pulling that one off.

On Radiolab recently they talked about the longer history of the shift in the tactics on the southern border since the Clinton administration, and how that has indeed led to more deaths in the desert, because the legal ports of entry were made harder to get through…
I think this was the section where they talked about it, but there are 2 parts on either side of it. But long story short, we have no idea how many people have died out there, and it was a change in tactics that contributed to those deaths.

Every time I hear people talk about running the public sector “like a business” the first thing that comes to my mind is, “You realize that in the public sector you are actually held accountable for your actions, right?” Not that Trump has been held accountable yet, and I’m not sure Trump ever will. But lots of cabinet members have been forced out. I bet Sarah Huckabee-Sanders would be a lot happier in some cushy corporate board gig than being hounded out of restaurants.
I don’t buy it as literal truth that South Africa was better than the US, but I imagine the point is to shame by comparison, and I think there were (and are) enough comparisons to be ashamed of.

The firm who handles my 401k sends out regular ‘investment advisories’ about stuff affecting the funds, and for the last two years, they’ve basically been saying “everything Trump says is BS. Ignore it. Everyone in the world is trying hard to ignore him. He’s faking and manufacturing a trade war to make himself look like a hero. We know this. China knows this. Europe knows this. He’s full of crap. One day it will be resolved so just hold tight.”
